15 weeks and addicted to NRT

Had to buy patches 7mg as I was feeling like something was missing I was in a bad mood and I put a patch on and was ok. I know its better than cigarettes but just wondered if maybe the tablet under the tongue is cheaper and good?

How about the gum? Then you just have one when you really need it rather a constant feed of nicotine through the patch?

You are still doing great though NRT MUCH better than smoking:)

yes I think that's it I need to come off the patches to something that isn't constant. I bought the lozenges wee blue tubs with tablets thought oh this will be good. OMG how awful It was burning my mouth. The strip thing Ill look into that or the gum just to have in the house. It does feel good not smoking I just miss the nicotine feed lol

Forgive me for posting yet another old post!

This one, I think, is quite a fascinating experiment.

I think it demonstrates that as smokers we were far from normal and how we feel during that early stage of quitting can vary enormously. I also think it goes a long way to explaining why us ex-smokers feel so much better after we've nailed our quits.

In some ways you might call the author irresponsible but it clearly demonstrates how bad a normal, non-smoking person feels when they slap on a patch. Reverse the experiment and you then appreciate how a quitter on patches has to accommodate all that to feel normal.

Here it's not a pro or anti NRT subject, it's more an indication of how messed up we were as smokers and how any way out of the maelstrom is a viable option!

Ah, this is why I personally dont like NRT. your conscious mind and your biochemical mind are completely out of sinc with eachother. Its been 15 weeks since you smoked which is brilliant btw! but deep within the neurotransmitters of your brain you have not quit, its interesting because your brain re-associates and it happened to me! when i went CT my mind was asking for an e-cig or a spray rather than a fag, because it had learned that was the way i was going to feed it nicotine.

I dont mean this to sound pushy but you are going to need to bridge this gap sooner or later and while you have done brilliant on the NRT which is why its there, the time will come to say goodbye and you will feel something is missing...because it is but honest in a few weeks that feeling will pass.

Good luck whatever route you take though, just stay of the fags lol xxx

yeah its not a cowardly way to quit! I think its harder if anything so takes more gutts to quit using NRT! :D xx

Yeh I know what you are all saying and yes I will have to face it sooner or later. I just handed in a 15,000 word portfolio for uni where I would usually have smoked my way through stressful situations. However now that is handed in it might be looking at filling that something. This forum is a gr8 help. Maybe now I have time I should browse over Allen carrs book as that was the difference to my stop this time to any others. :)

Hey Karen,

I don't wanna get involved in the whole NRT thing as it's already been debated elsewhere. I just wanted to say that the Allen Carr book helped me more than I thought it was going to. I started reading it thinking 'make me stop then, I dare you Mr Carr, ha you have no chance' but by the time i'd finished I was reading to quit, if you open your mind to it, it really helps to make your brain ready to kick that Nicodemon in the butt once and for all. Whatever you do I wish you every success :D I am rooting for you!

Keep the book handy at all times (if possible) and bookmark the pages that are the most helpful for you. Maybe also highlight particular paragraphs or phrases with a highlighter pen too so that you can find them instantly.

I have the DVD and watch it on a regular basis, just to re-affirm things!

Yeh gr8 ideas. I went and bought the strips 15 for about £4.50. I have one - two per day so that is 2.5mg or 5 (if two) better than 7mg patches. Ill just wean off this way and go back to my book. That should change the mind set.

Hi there try cutting a small bit of your patch everyday so you come off them gradually its not such a shock to the system then...that's what I intend to do and would would have been on the patches for 15 weeks myself...xx

nsd_user663_2904 profile image
nsd_user663_2904

yes it just dissolves very quickly. Its 2.5 per strip so I have took 2 the last few days. I will stick to one today an then finish packet with 1 per day. Then ill see how it goes from there as that should wean me right off them. 16 weeks wooohooo. Good idea with the patches they defo took the edge off the stopping smoking, irritable bad moods so I am glad of them but they served their purpose. Hopefully within next 2 weeks there is no need for NRT :)
