Really can't help thinking that they should treat people as adults.

Everyone knows smoking is bad for you, we knew before we started, so bigger health warnings etc are a waste of time - and as for plain packaging, the Marlboro Lights I smoked were in a nearly all white pack...

I believe the public health folks have started now with the health warning on alcohol. And pictures to boot on the label...

Nice. Somebody in public health seems to be forgetting by the time you get round to finishing the drinks and trying to read the label your not exactly able to focus too well...

Agree entirely with Gemma. Give us the information then leave us we'll enough alone to make our own grown up choices. And stop making up a pile of crap science in order to tax us on everything we enjoy... You'd think the church was running the show again the moralising that goes on in these government agencies.

Yep they have, but tbh if health warnings on fags don't help stop people smoking, or even deter them from starting what's the point?

The booze labels are so tiny, I can hardly read them stone cold sober!!

That's exactly it, OK smoking kills, we all know that but as most of us started in our teens when you think you're either immortal or not going to get hooked, what good will even more lurid warnings do?

Would rather they put more effort into helping people get off fags than plain packets (smuggler's delight) and gruesome pictures people turn over anyway.

This is obviously just another tax on people who are addicted to nicotine.

While I think the e-cigs are 100 times better than tobacco in real cigarettes, they do just keep people addicted to the nicotine in a different form. Many people do manage to quit smoking using these, and eventually quit the e-cigs as well though, so they can be a very good tool for people to help them quit.

I think the EU know how much money real cigarettes bring them in. They must be thinking that they can't allow that much money to just stop dead because everyone is now on e-cigs. So- by effectively putting a tax on e-cigs- they are making it a little bit harder for people to switch to them in order to quit smoking, thereby keeping big tobacco money coming in, and at the same time those who are switching will be paying in, replacing any lost money from those who quit.
