ok, so heres my reasons for wanting to quit and for NOT wanting to quit!

TO QUIT

i hate the smell

i hate the way it controls the whole set up of my day and life

even though i am in denial i am sure my body is starting to feel the brunt

it will make my Dad the happiest father on the planet

i will be able to taste better

i wont spend my life stressing about who has just seen me having a cig (im a bit of a secret full time smoker)

the money

setting an example for my niece and nephew

not getting past date one when they find out i am a smoker!!:p

NOT TO QUIT

its part of me (crazy)

dont want to put on weight

i like it

and i can never ever imagine sitting outside with a glass of wine on a summer evening and actually enjoying it without a cigarette

im officially loopy.....

All very good reasons and very similar to mine. It is hard to imagine life without ciggies but that is the drug talking! (Try reading the Allen Carr book - it does make sense some of it). I am starting to realise there is life after ciggies and its much better than life with ciggies!

Hello,

The reasons to quit list outnumbered the reasons not to quit, so from a purely logical prospective deep down in your brain , the quiting process is starting to sprout.

Good stuff :)

Now for the cons, I'm a newcomer to this site, so bear with my posting style ( lack off ).

Its part of me - smoking is a habit I picked up , I wasn't born smoking, it's not an evolutionary aspect of being a human, its just a habit, the people I know don't call me baly the smoker, they call me baly. Only I saw it as being part of my makeup. Once I got a handle on this half the battle is won.

Weight - my opinion it may vary, no offense to anyone who has found this to be an issue. I read about the effects on the metabolism when you stop smoking ie it slows down and also how you may snack as means to get over cravings/ something to do . So I stocked up on raw carrots, high fibre cereals, pumpkin seeds, so if I needed to snack I could and all these items are healthy and give a jaw/mouth something to do.

I like it / drinking - omg its what I used to think, how on earth can I have a drink without a Ciggy, how can I enjoy food without a Ciggy afterwards, how will I be able to go for my weekend or daily drives without Ciggy, Friday won't be Friday's without Ciggy, you get the picture lol.

Its all in the mind, its just a Pavlovian association which can be broken and conquered.

Honestly you can quit, you have the right reasons, which counts for a lot.

Enjoy the journey to becoming a none smoker :)

Hi Baly, love it!

And yes you are so right - we condition ourselves to be smokers and i, for one, justify being a smoker 24/7. not any more....

Bizarely, just "making the decision" to quit has already made me cut down drastically without even trying. just waiting for my proper e cig to arrive and i have a feeling that i will truly be knocking it on the head. As the guy at the E Cig company said to me, this is the perfect option for those looking for an "alternative" to smoking.

thanks for all the encouragement - raring to go now...

Just wondering, are you going to use the e-cig for ever, or as a means to quit?

going into it with an open mind. for me its about habit more than addiction (i think) so if i end up with the e cig forever well I'm ok with that but i suspect my use will decrease to socially in any event.

i know some would argue thats not a way to look at quitting but i believe in doing whatever it takes to get off the evil weed and even if that means staying on nictotine in the longer term, its still a major step in the right direction.

Which e-cig did you go for in the end?
