I woke up this morning to my usual coughing session which lasts about half an hour and it is not very nice. I believe it is something to do with my sinuses and has been since I stopped smoking. I think it is nasal drip or should I say flood as I am sure this is phlegm going down the back of my throat and into my windpipe. But because I have been diagnosed as having C.O.P.D. (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and Emphysema both in my lower right lung, unfortunately the doctors can't see past this.
I do not want any praise for stopping smoking I have had my praise on here many times. I have just popped on here today to say to all you who are trying YES it can be done and to praise you all for trying and of course those of you who have already stopped. I smoked for 52 years and totally unplanned stopped cold turkey on 2nd December 2009 at 10.10pm
At the start I mentioned my coughing this could be a chest infection because I have not been feeling right for the last 2-3 weeks. I did go for a while with no cough and it was great but as I say every time I go to the doctors it's C.O.P.D.
It is somehow connected to my smoking so please while you have the chance quit don't end up like me. It's not easy but it is not impossible as we all brainwash ourselves to believe.
Good luck to you all.
Jack

Congratulations Jack, you're going to get praise whether you like it or not because you deserve it
I too started with an unplanned quit and have just passed 10 months going cold turkey. It's people like you that made me believe it was possible and I only smoked for 31 years compared to your 52.
With regard to your cough, I would ask your doctor for a hospital referral. If you get a refusal I would seek another doctor.
Congratulations Jack on your 3 years smoke free. As Molly said, It's always great to hear from long term quitters as it reminds us newbies that it can be done. You have shown us light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you so much.
