Messed Up!!!

Oh well, after stopping smoking on the 26th January 2012 using Champix, I had a few beers and went to the shop to buy something and came back with some cigars!!! That was about 4 weeks ago now and up until yesterday my wife and I were smoking a lot of cigars!!!

I really felt poo last night, getting my wife and myself hooked again, so ITS COLD TURKEY TIME. As yet I've not had any cigars today, but I got to 11am yesterday before I had one!!!

Wish me luck. The wife says she'll have no problems not having any...

Well done on deciding to quit again

dont be too hard on yourself on giving in :( most people have to quit quite afew times before they quit for good so dont beat yourself up about it and concentrate on this quit

re read your earlier posts to refresh your memory of what you went through then and keep mind and hands busy when you feel a crave come on as it will pass

regards

Good call getting back on the quit wagon, there is nothing better for you. I've done what you did numerous times... In fact, I am back trying to finish my first month yet again, and have been a forum member since 2007. It is not worth beating yourself up over. Try focusing on all the smokes you didn't have, and how that was helping your body heal. You now know where you have a weakness and will be ready for it next time. Good luck, stay strong, and we are behind you!

Thanks

Thank you for your supportive and kind words. Well, 1225hrs and I doing okay. I know that once I get home that I will not have smoked at all today. The wife and I will support each other.

I had put on 2 stones since I stopped back in January, but I have not reached my target weight of 14 stone yet (1 stone away). I know from starting cigars a month ago, I have hardly put weight on, and that's because I cannot afford all the food I was eating as I'm now spending it on cigars!!! Hopefully from next week, the sausage and bacon sandwiches will be flowing, I can reach my target weight, and our bank balance will start to rise.

I'm now inspired............

Bad news - but not terrible news mate.

Where I've gone wrong in the past is when I've fallen off the wagon you say "I'll just smoke for another week and then I'll quit again - it was easy last time!". Then a week becomes a fortnight. Two weeks becomes "next month". Next month then becomes "after Christmas" and you're a full time smoker again.

I won't say I haven't fallen off the wagon this time - I have three times - but those were one offs where much alcohol was involved! The next day I stayed quit again. It takes a bit of effort, but far less effort than a full blown quit. You don't have to unlearn all your triggers again...

Good luck mate - don't give it up already - you've done six months!

I'll agree with that. I had one lapse and went straight back on the wagon. I had 2 weeks of getting used to not smoking and I seemed to continue where I left off. It would have been much worse to wait and have to start all over from scratch.

Question Munter. Did you start counting over from Day1 or consider it part of the same quit?

Need to try harder

thanks for your responses. I really need to try harder, smoking cigars is even more expensive than the tobacco we were smoking. I'm definitely a full time smoker again!!!

Would the doctor prescribe me champix again?

Hi Hopeful

Well done on wanting to quit again. As you can see from my signature I'm back here after breaking a 6 month quit. The only difference is that I waited over a year before trying again.

There was no problem when I went back to see the nurse about starting Champix again. No harm in asking.

Good luck with it all...I wish you well.

Thank you, I feel I have let everyone down. Really do get depressed about it, why am I so weak willed?

Anyway, text sent to my wife to ask for an appointment at the no-smoking clinic at my docs.....

Champix is 3 times cheaper than cigars, and much better for your health

here's hoping!!!

Hopeful!!

Oh bless. Don't feel week, guilty or depressed. Celebrate the fact that you're getting back on the wagon! :)

Great news for you about the Champix. Very best of luck to you, you can do it, you've already proven that you can! :D

Well, I'm back at the doctors a week on Friday. I hope they are not too cheesed off with me, I know that Champix costs more than the prescription fee.....

Hiya, sorry to hear that you caved but most of us have been there... I know when I relapsed I had to really sort my head out before I quit again (which was 3 weeks) I don't think champix, patches or anything else will work long term until you get your head around the fact that you can NEVER have another drag - it always leads to another & before you know it you're back to square one again!!

I really hope you can do it, it's hard but you've done it for 6 months (which is amazing) so you can do it again :)

Thank you Denise. You are absolutely right regarding not being able to have even one drag of anything with nicotine in it. I need to learn this fast, and this wagon I've just fallen off needs to have me back on board....

I know I can do it, I'm losing the weight I put on and I didn't want that to happen!!!
