I wish my mum would quit smoking i wish she could beleive that she could. she has copd and has recently been diagnosed with an aneurism on her Aorta ,its very serious and needs a stent . she was asked to quit but couldnt /wouldnt, we all know the drill . She has just had a pre op assesment and they wont operate because shes too frail and could die from the procedure . without it she will probably die..I do wish that she would stop but can she? shes77 not that old look at Joan Collins or the queens mum. This whole business has stressed me out and caused a huge row with my sister who i love dearly or did until she became a born again christian and has grown an enormous talon on one of her index fingers. By now i thought i would be enjoying my quit and mum would have had her op and been fine but it looks like a bumpy road ahead. I do beleive that if i can quit then she can. any advice on how to disarm a born again xtian would be most welcome iv never felt such hatred for anyone like this before, shes quite scary.

im sorry things arnt going well with your mum her health and the quitting side Mash and by the sounds of it your sister isnt being much support to you when you could do with some right now

its harder still if your mum is a long term smoker as to most its a part of there life and they cant see how they can cope without smoking

sorry to hear you're going through a rough time

Most of the time the older smokers are the worst, they won't quit. Their arguments are that nobody got cancer or other smoking illnesses back in their day. Well they probably did its just there wasn't the media back then but will they listen? My nana is 70 this year and is exactly this!! She doesn't have copd although I think its coming as her lungs are in bad shape she coughs all the time and sometimes struggles to find her breath with that cough her face turns purple! She has however had two tumours in her neck which the doctor has said has been caused by smoking, damaged saliva glands and damaged esophagus. But still she won't stop.

So I feel what you are saying about your mum. Its like banging your head against a brick wall repeatedly right? Its draning x

:(Sorry to hear about your mum Mash. Its a difficult situation isnt it and as for your sister well I think she needs to come down off that christian thing and see things as they really are. But I wish you all the very best with your quit.

thak you all for your support.think i might be a bit harsh towards my sis. its a difficult time and emotional energies are shooting off like a box of fireworks where a spark has got in, shes angry and scared like the rest of us and i am a tad reactionary these days in fact i beleive iv been crossed off a few xmas card lists lately. so heres a BIG FAT SORRY. for being a bit of a troll. im no longer being doped with tobacco. a bit sensitive i am these days and a bit new to fully feeling feelings. my mums not for giving up and just told us all she has no intention of having this op anyway.. its funny how roles have reversed. talk about stubborn, she does say shes pleased for me for quitting and didnt beleive i ever would, so there is hope
