Hello,

That 1st cup of tea/coffee and cigarette is probably the hardest trigger I had to deal with. It was all in my mind.

I had to really dig deep, but found that jumping in the shower straight away and not putting the kettle on was the way for me. I avoided that 1st cuppa, that was the trigger, cuppa=have cigarette.

Get informed, read all you can and read some more, understand the addiction and then make a plan and follow it through.

Drink water, I have also found the "5 fruit/veg a day" principle stops me eating junk all day.

Good luck and keep posting.

If you are still smoking 1 in the morning and 2 in the evening, then you are on day 0 of stopping smoking!!!!

Be careful of nicotine overdose if you are using patches and smoking.

Oh god, I agree, you're having 3 fags a day you havnt stopped, you're disiplining yourself by 'cutting down' which doesn't work at all. Had this argument with my nana yesterday, because she's on 6 fags a day instead of 30 like she used to be, she thinks she's going the right way and is effectivly stopping gradually. It doesn't work. All you're doing is making yourself miserable and falling into the trap where you feel deprived. I changed my routine of a morning, changed the room I did my hair and make up in, it stopped me hankering for a fag on a morning anyway.

Please don't think that because you're cutting down you're doing good. If you really want to stop altogether, you need to change your way of thinking. And learning about the addiction like somebodys already suggested. I've researched addiction and I'm reading one of allen carrs books. Its all about educating ourselves.

No I'm not having 3, I'm having 2.

I know all about the addiction, I wrote the articles, but yes, nicotine overdose is extremely dangerous and can even be fatal, nicotine after all and an LD50 of 60mg and 10mg in children.

I'm considering I've come along way from 15-20 a day in a fortnight or so to 2, and I know the first one is the crippler. If I don't have the first I won't have the second.

But thanks for the replies, is it Allan Carr that says if we only smoked when we craved we would smoke about 1/4 of the norm?

I guess 1/4 is 2 is a half, there's no point in that at all!

What you're saying is logical to you, it would have been logical to me a couple of weeks ago. If you wanna be a non smoker, then be one but cutting your cigs to just two a day is not stopping smoking, its cutting them down. My advice would be to give in and quit again when you're in the right mind to do so and really want to quit them all. But obviously you don't have to take the advice its just my opinion and my view. Good luck hun x

Even if it was only 1 ciggie a day you're having you still aren't stopped smoking. You may have drastically reduced your intake but you are still maintaining a habit of smoking and therefore you're actually cheating yourself if you think you're on Day 4 - 7.

You mention "...I know all about the addiction, I wrote the articles." I'm curious what you mean by this. Please don't regard this as being overly inquisitive....I'm just curious as you've mentioned it a couple of times.

Hope you manage to cut the cigs out and get your quit launched.

I've written articles on how to quit.

It's bloody annoying when the addiction just smacks 'you' (me) in the face, well it isn't, it's just the psychological habit. I know that.

You are right, cavalier, I have quit before, for nearly a year, and I guess there is an element of 'con' going on here.

Maybe I'm looking forward to the night-time cig, but you are right.

I hope this makes sense :)

Rochelle thanks for the input.

I am ready to quit, I got a kick up the jaxi from a loving partner but giving in now and going back to 15-20 a day isn't for me now. I know just what you are saying though, it's time to make that choice.

Thanks love x

You're welcome. Never give in, we are all strong minded otherwise we wouldn't have rebelled and started up in the first place :) x
