Sorry to hear that Terry :(

BUT, every cloud has a silver lining, you now know that having that one ciggy slowly turns into two or three and then eventually back to the habit that you so desperately wanted to shed, was that one ciggy that broke your quit worth it?, you now know the answer

All i can say is....regain your control, re-arm yourself as to why you want to quit (many of the reasons are in your signature), re-read everything about quitting, get your head in the right place then lift it up high and quit with confidence.

You've done it before so you know you can do it but remember... N.O.P.E (Not One Puff Ever).

Good luck matey.

Hi Terry

I would say that this is still recoverable, but the longer you leave it, the harder it will be. My advice woud be to decide how you are going to quit this time, pull a plan together and then do it as soon as possible.

It may be helpful to go back through some of the information on here for new quitters to reinforce your motivation and resolve.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Hi Terry,

Sorry to hear you are smoking again. What is happening now is that by smoking you have opened up the nicotine receptors in your brain and so you will get cravings, so just try to see them for what they are. And look on the bright side, if you can stop smoking for nearly a year you CAN do it:) I see from your signature that you stopped cold turkey so you obviously have plenty of willpower:D But if that is too difficult at the moment, why not try Champix? That would help as it stops cigarettes from being enjoyable, and you are not smoking enough at the moment to warrant using NRT. That might make things worse as you would still be feeding the nicotine addiction.

But whatever you decide to do I am sure you will be back on track soon.

Wishing you all the best,

Zoe:)

Dear all

Thank you for your advice,it really helps as I know what I must do but it's good to hear others say it.

Today I won't smoke and reread my posts with others,

I will do it be although it looks like I have willpower I think I am weak.

Oh dear I don't want to go back to all that smoking I really don't

Thanks everyone.please post tips, has anyone else been in my position and what did they do.

Hi Terry,

Sorry to read of your lapse :(

Everyone has posted excellent advice in re-engaging with your quit. I'm really not sure if you could totally lose all the knowledge that assisted you in your near one-year quit period. So much of quitting is the inner battle that we have and that's possibly why not only each person's quit but also each quit attempt is very specific to the individual and therefore unique.

Whilst acknowledging Zoe's advice about champix you may wish to actually read through Allen Carr's EasyWay book instead. That may give you the mental boost to get back into your non smoking self. I'm suggesting that process because in effect you are trying to reduce drugs and poisons in your system...not add to them.

Ultimately it is your choice but be assured that the Forum will be here to continue supporting you in your journeys.

Hiya Terry,

I'm with Cav. Sorry to hear of your relapse. I've tried to quit a few times and in the past I always start smoking again as I get comlacent and think that I'm ok to handle 1 or 2 fags and then give them up. I forget the initial struggle I had with quitting and think I'll be ok. This is WRONG for me...once I have one, by the end of the day I'll have smoked the pack. I'll go out the next day and smoke another pack. You do have tremendous willpower to have given up so long cold turkey...use that willpower to quit again. If not you'll be back where you started a year ago. Miserable, addicted, smelly and feeling 20 years older than you actually are. I'm only on Day 2 of my quit but I was given Allen Carr's Easyway book ages ago by a friend, which has sat on my bookcase gathering dust for months. After getting so upset and pissed off with myself for smoking, I decided to give up and that's what I've done. I spied Allen Carr on my bookshelf yesterday and read the book, he really makes you think differently about smoking and I wholly recommend the read. Good luck if you want to quit again.
