Hi Derek and welcome to the forum :)

It is tough the first few days, but it does get easier!!

If chewing gum isn't working, try drinking a lot of water (if it doesn't help with the craves it will help your body get rid of the toxins) going for a walk or basically anything that takes your mind off smoking!!

How are you quitting, with NRT or cold turkey?

Welcome Derek, I went CT (not because I'm clever, but because I was ill) and it was heavy at first, the first two weeks were tough, I won't lie. BUT it's worth the effort, the rewards far outweigh the early discomfort. Which is all it is, let's be honest. My tip? This forum, and sweets, lots of them :D

Hi Derek and welcome!:D

It's nearly 5 oclock so if you are in the UK then you are anout 2/3rd of your way through your first day. Yes you will feel that you are going crazy, that nasty little Nicodemon will be permanantly sat on your shoulder whispering smelly nothings into your ear willing you to have just one little puff, after all what harm will it do!!!

SWAT him away!!! Dont listen...he is LYING!

keep strong and congratulate yourself when you go to bed tonight as having completed day one.

Believe me it DOES get easier:D:D

Thank-you all for all the encouraging words I really needed it. I am doing it cold turkey but I am tempted to use champix just to help me. I actually had my last smoke Sunday afternoon 2:00 I think. I live in toronto canada so I still have a bit to go to I can sleep and not think about it. I will try to drink water and clean my system. So the reason why I am quitting is not just for myself but I am going to be a father in August so I never want to expose my child or any child to smoking. Still fighting the fight!!

Thanks

Derek

A child is a great motivation to quit Derek! I quit using Champix an I have to say they work, so if you feel you need some help then ask for it. Just don't smoke! Drinking water is a good detox too. Flush out your system and start to feel really clean. It is all good Derek, one thing is for sure you have made the best decision of your life. Welcome to the forum by the way!

Day 3

I am on Day 3 and still have not smoked. Can't say its been easy but I am still fighting the fight. I just have a question did any of you get constant headaches for the first few days of quitting?

Thanks

Derek

Derek first few days can be stressful and it would probably explain the headaches.

What he said!!

Also make sure you're drinking enough water 'cos that causes headaches too.

also if you have changed what you drink, ie stopped the coffe and chosen fruit juice, you could be getting caffeine withdrawel, you can test that by having a cup of coffee with double your normal coffee in it. I had this type of headache last year- awful. If you havent stopped your coffee/tea intact, up your water intake. If you still have it tomorrow night- go to the doctor Derek, just to be on the safe side xxx

Hi Derek. I am on Day 15, but using the NRT Gum. Started with 3 a day for the first few days, but dropped it to 2 a day now. I quit for the same reason as you, only my son was born on March 22nd. Quit the habit when he was about 1 week old. It is the best reason to quit and he does give me the strength to go on with this. All the best dude, and stay strong.

Hey, Im on day 23 and i can safely say it gets so much easier buts not to say you still got some work to do until the 3 month mark. It sounds long but its really not and once your there you havent got to do it again! but if you smoke you have to feel like this again and again just remember that!

Anyways carry on mate you will be fine! xx

Phil: Derek nibbling on carrots worked for me

Wish I had have chosen that... I chose chocolate and am paying for it!

Derek the headaches are normal especially if you are not having constant intake of water (little bits at a time, and just cool, not chilled.)

As mentioned previously it's a very bad idea to quit caffeine and nicotine at the same time. Check caffeine levels, check water ;)

If this doesn't work - get a massage with all that money you've already saved! It will help to de-stress, and help to cleanse all the toxins early!!!

And if you have a partner who is willing, get them to do it and enjoy each others company. enjoying a lot produces endorphins. Endorphins help with headaches :P
