Hi all I have been on the champix for a little over 2 weeks now.

I am 30 have been smoking for roughly 17 years. I stoped smoking at 9:30pm on Monday 2nd of Aug. I am half way through the fourth day and it has been my toughest yet.

Very irritable very grumpy no patients at all I hope it will get better.

I have gotten another 4 weeks of champix my question is this am I basically going cold turkey or is that not the case with champix

i have no experience with champix but i am sure someone will be along soon who has

in the mean time go through the old posts knowledge is power they say and that is so true

Champix is supposed to shut down the nicotene receptors in the brain but if you're like me it doesn't seem to do much!! However you have no nicotene left in your body now so the real trouble is the awful habit!!! Everyone on this forum has a story to tell about breaking the habit so try and read the early posts of some long term quitters. They will all jump in to help if you ask.

Having said that about Champix i NEVER thought I would be able to quit but I have (so far) so it must have some effect. Keep on keeping on. Good Luck.

I noticed with the champix that I started to dislike the last of cigs quite quickly then I was not to fussed about smoking so stopped a few days later

I don't think you can define it as 'cold turkey' if you're using champix, but it's definitely not the same as NRT. Once you haven't had a smoke for five days or so, then you are free and clear of nicotene. But the Champix continues to suppress the desire to smoke (or so I understand it, didn't use it myself, so not an expert by any means).

Anyway, however you get there it's the quitting that counts.

Even when the nicotene is long gone you will still have the psychological habit to overcome, and life will throw some major smoking triggers at you. Sometimes your brain can produce cravings which feel very physical, even though it's not nicotene withdrawal causing them, so do be prepared! It does gets easier and easier, though, you'll be glad to hear!

Well done for quitting, you're doing fab. Keep fighting the good fight :)
