Its day 4 for me and I am finding it hard. Been watching loads of no smoking stuff on YouTube. I am on the patches. I have never really tried to give up not for more than a day. My motivation is seeing my 17 year old son smoking thinking it’s cool, how could I take the moral high ground if I’m puffing.
Gave up after 33 Years: Its day 4 for me and... - No Smoking Day
Gave up after 33 Years
Hey there!
Well done on deciding not to smoke, everyone has different reasons for quitting and yours is as good as any. How can you set an example when you are doing the thing yourself, hypocrite comes to mind
Anyway, you are doing so well so well done to you
Read lots and watch things on youtube, drink water, deep breathing etc will all help with your cravings, just keep your mind occupied and before you know it you will no longer think about it as much.
If you are feeling frustrated and annoyed, post on here, we all know what you are going through and can take the virtual beatings lol.
Well done again

My mind keeps thinking Oh just one
Today has been the hardest, been out on cycling in the rain as thought some exercise would help.
My mind keeps thinking Oh just one. Must be strong it’s all in the mind...
Raph
Keep at it Raph, as everyone will tell you it does get easier.
Think to yourself that the "ONE" that your mind is craving for will start you back on the road to self destruction.
You're doing well getting to day 4 and you'll be surprise how the time flies, in a couple of days you'll start to realise that "Wow, not thought of a ciggie for a few hours"...... or if you did it'll be easier to shrug off.
Don't give in to the "Nicodemon"
congrats on day 4 ralph...we all know how hard it is but its worth it.. i have a 9 year old son who i have told about the dangers of smoking and hope that it sinks in!! it is a struggle but we can all get through it!! time makes you stronger....the thoughts come in from time to time no matter how long you havent smoked but it gets easier and you can resist it by remembering the reasons you quit!! good luck hun and stay stong
That's why car have windows that open
Day 5. very hard, keep thinking I wanna fag. Must be strong.
I find it hard when I’m in the car, driving in London what else are you supposed to do in the traffic, that why cars have windows that open ...NO, after food I seem to be ok, but driving that’s when I smoke the most (never with kids in the car) ...Help
Find something else to do... think to yourself that non-smokers have been stuck in traffic for decades without a fag in hand and they've managed just fine!
In a few weeks you won't even be thinking about smoking in your car but if you have 'just the one' it'll lead to others and then you'll be right back where you started - being a slight hypocrite and not leading by example.
Sorry, sounds harsh but if you think about it this way it might help for those hard times.
hi Ralph first of all well done for giving up and getting to day 5
driving and (talking on the phone at home) was my worse time for smoking but i found holding a pen in my hand doing both and slowly not holding it everytime has helped
you have to remember as well as the withdrawel effects your going through the fact your relationship with the cigerette is over so you are bound to get alot of different feelings they are like waves some come in deeper and heavy others will just wash over you each one that comes
you just have to breathe and try your best to distract your mind/hand till it passes if your driving start singing along to the radio or just a random song or play a spot how many red cars game anything to keep your mind distracted and once it has passed which it will
this forum is here for you too reading some of the threads and links as well as being distracting will help keep you strong and also the fact you know that everyone on here knows what your going through so come here read some of davids great jokes he posts them every day and certainly gets me chuckling
you will get through it
and before you know it a week has passed then a month and so on its scary how quick the time goes and the more time goes the stronger you get and even though the nicotine demon will still try to get you back most of the time it wilbe just a ripple effect wave
regards Carol
Made it through
Thought I would never be able to make it this far, my car still smells of smoke so am going to get it cleaned and get air freshener for it. I nearly broke yesterday by asking for 10 silk cut when I paid for my petrol, funny how your mind tricks you I didn’t smoke silk cut it was Dunhill International 25 Years. Well I paid for my petrol and no fags, shouted at a few crappy drivers on the way home. So day 6 is here and I have made it. Feel ok today.
