Day 1 - First time for 33 years

Hi all....

Today is the first day I have tried to stop smoking for 33 years since starting and I found myself here after having a bad hour wanting to go out to the shops and buy a pack...... still not passed that yet but it is getting a little better.

Trying to stop smoking simply for health reasons...tis not about today, it is about tomorrow. My partner, who has smoked the same length of time, who did not wish to give up is fully supporting me in my effort by doing the same, which is what so far, has kept me from the shops.

Already had a heart attack, had a massive op in August that since I left hospital I have suffered with a really bad chest and ended up on a nebulisor more times than not and am on inhailers now toboot....

Really want to do this, not for money as I do not find it that expensive, not for my kids, they have grown up and left home, but for tomorrow, for there to be a tomorrow and for my partner.

Sorry for going on...LOL

Hi There

I'm probably not the best person to give you any advice as I'm back on day 1 again today due to previous failed attempts.

All I can say is congratulations and well done on your descision to quit, before you know it, it will be day 2, week 2, month 2, year 2, etc and you will be enjoying and reeping the benefits of a smoke free life with your partner.

This forum really is fab so keep posting often - others will tell you to come on here to shout, laugh, cry, moan, etc just DON'T SMOKE.

Reading/education I think is the key and some of those on here have lots of good links in their signatures -have a read, I'm sure they will post and welcome you before long.

Take care

Tinks x

Keep at it! I broke 72 hours earlier and haven't felt so good in a long long time. I've had the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal but have managed to keep busy and get through them. I think that's important for the next few days. Do what ever you can to keep busy! I made pasties, wondered around on here, played my guitar, cleaned fish tanks etc...the house has never looked so clean!

Day 1 for me was difficult as I wasn't doing things I'd done before

Day 2 was a little more difficult due to dizziness, anxiety, fatigue etc...all symptoms of getting over nicotine addiction

Day 3 for has been quite easy. A day I've felt the different in myself in terms of energy, breathing and generally feeling much better.

Well done you - making the decision is the hardest thing - I smoked for 40 years and found the first few days quite scarey, but it worth it. Take the advice from the others - read the posts and the links, you'll learn a lot about the addiction and quitting.

Good luck, and keep posting.

Hi Papillon :)

Well done you deciding to stop smoking, it's never to late to quit of course and your health will improve a lot as mine has although I smoked over for 50 years my health is much improved now.

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathising with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

This link is good for the psychological part of quittingwhyquit.com/whyquit/A_Sympt...

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here
