Hi Shanel and welcome to the wonderful world of champix! It seems to affect people very differently and your experience so far looks to be about normal I would say. I have taken it for nearly 5 weeks and have not smoked for 26 days so it is working for me. It did take a while to kick in but just before my quit date I stopped early because I really didn't want to smoke any more. Oh, and pretty much ignore the stop date, just quit when you feel like it.
If you feel a bit sick make sure you take the tablet with food, that will help. The only side effects I have had are lack of sleep and very strange dreams, not bad, just strange! Good luck with your quit
Hi Shanel, I'm 22 days off the ciggies now and I stopped smoking on my 12th day of taking Champix. I started cutting down without even meaning to by about the 9th day, so don't worry about still smoking the same amount on day 5.
On the 5th day you're still not on the full strength tablets. You should find yourself wanting to smoke less and less by the 2nd week though, and that is when you should aim to quit by. Mybe you should talk to your quit nurse again if you have one, as you should have discussed a date to stop smoking when you were prescribed them.
The tablets aren't a miracle though, you have to work at wanting to stop too. As AngelaKaz said, do take the tablets with or after food, as they can make you feel a bit sick. But everyone is different. I haven't felt sick, but I've had the weird dreams too.
I'm on day 21 with champix, and stopped on day 13 of taking them, but didn't cut down straight away.
Like Rachel says, and i think the mistake some people make is that it is not a magic pill that will just make you stop. Remeber what it does!!! It's switching off part of your brain that gets it's kicks from Nicotine, So while you're still smoking over the next few days, try and pay attention to whether you are actually getting anything from smoking or whether it is just fulling the habit rather than the addiction.
I get the sickness thing too, and i have to take it halfway through food and then eat more food on top. Even if i take it when i've just eaten i get bad nausea.
Thank you for all your replies and congratulations all for not smoking i hope i can be the same. my quit day is the 15th of december, ill be see my quiting nurse again on the 14th really want to go back and say " yes its worked i haven't been smoking for 4 days, as mentioned i think i need to come to terms with the fact that it isn't a miracle pill (if only) i think i really need to put some will power strength into it this!!

My friend is now on the 7day and beyond Champix pills, the ones you cant smoke on, or you will be violently sick, as the doctor told her, and as she found out, she is now on week 2 of the 'strong stuff' and has never felt better. She gets up and there is just no craving, and all day she doesnt even think about a cigarette.
