I love that

… I have accomplished something life changing

… I have a better chance to get pregnant and have a healthy child

… I am likely to live longer

… I can run 40 min with no problems

… I smell and taste nice

… I have more money

… I have fewer things to forget home in the morning

… I don’t have to be embarrassed at dentist/doc/train/friends house/around children/etcetc

… I have whiter teeth

… My fingertips are not yellow

… I get to keep all my hair as I’m not burning it in the wind whilst trying to light up

… I can stay in the warm now that it is cold out

… I don’t have to panic if my cigs are running out or lighter is not working

… I don’t go crazy during long flights or meetings

… I can live free without having to ensure the next smoking opportunity

I hate that

… I have to fight cravings of cigs and now also chocolate every day

… I don’t get to feel smoke in my lungs

… I can’t reward my self with a cig after a job well done

… I don’t get my usual brakes

… I can’t enjoy wine as much

… I can’t enjoy pub gardens as much

… I can’t enjoy hagning out with friends as much

… after almost 3 months, I still can’t trust my self for not caving in

… my hands are still as cold as before

… my taste is still the same

… I can’t stop thinking about smoking

… I use more time to motivate my self not to smoke than I ever did on smoking brakes

… I’m dreading to meet my (smoking) family over Xmas

.. I'm getting tired of this constant trying

Just few there for starters. I have to say that I'm struggling to stay motivated at the moment and list of hates is getting longer. Few more days and then I'll clear the terrible 3mos, so hoping it'll get better :(

wow the fact that you have gone so long now with out shows you have the motivation your doing well and yes with xmas coming up and being around smokers is going to be hard but it might not be as bad as you imagined when it comes down to it after all we all dread some situations being ex smokers now but afterwards i have wondered what all the fuss was about i did it and im sure you will too :)

not sure if you have read kevins tales on talesfromthequit.com

i have read quite afew of them and been inspired

mind you in my case my main inspiration is my grandson kurt

what were yours?

perhaps you need to go through why you wanted to give up in the first place and what helped you to stay smoke3 for so long might help to make your positive list grow

best regards carol

I hate that

… I have to fight cravings of cigs and now also chocolate every day - but it doesn't last forever, it will get better

… I don’t get to feel smoke in my lungs - that's suffication it's really not that nice when you think about it

… I can’t reward my self with a cig after a job well done - find another reward, put a bit of money in a tin towards a nice treat for doing a good job

… I don’t get my usual brakes - why not, nnever understood why non smokers didn't just take themselves off for 10 mins and have a coffee

… I can’t enjoy wine as much - it's overrated anyway, try new alcohol lol

… I can’t enjoy pub gardens as much - it's nearly december, freezing, stay in the warm instead whilst trying out new alcohol

… I can’t enjoy so******ing as much - can't work out the missing word here??

… after almost 3 months, I still can’t trust my self for not caving in - it is good to be on your guard, stops you failing by mistake

… my hands are still as cold as before - get some of them hand warming gel packs, when at home try and keep your hands higher than your heart

… my taste is still the sameit can take 3-12 mths for it to get back to being normal and it will do it slowly so for everyday foods you won't notice a massive WOW difference

… I can’t stop thinking about smoking - you smoked for years, you have given up for weeks, give yourself a break, it will get better with time

… I use more time to motivate my self not to smoke than I ever did on smoking brakes but when you get past this part think how much more proudctive you will be as a fitter healthier person

… I’m dreading to meet my (smoking) family over Xmas - it won't be as bad a you think, fear is a terrible thing but it only makes things 'SEEM' worse, they are not actually that bad

.. I'm getting tired of this constant trying - it doesn't last forever, you won't be trying for the rest of your life. Not smoking will become as second nature as smoking used to be

(

See Above, Chin up, it is never as bad as it seems :D

Yes, very sadly I did. I had a friend who was a few years older and she smoked (nicked them off her mum) and that is where I started. By the time I was 11 and just starting secondary school I was smoking 10 a day, 99p for 10 redband it was back then.

Shameful really isn't it.

Levs at same age (8), Mel Gibson started smoking too. He was a smoker for 45 years! But he managed to quit...So if he could do that after damn 45 years i guess we all can do it.

MichaelF you are so right about the "not even one puff". After 3 months of quiting i made the mistake to light cig again. Lol i felt so much guilty that i made 3 puffs and threw it away...That happened before 2 days and truth is my cravings are like im in my first week again...lol...So it's a rule, "Smoker or non-smoker", "not even one puff or ull be hugging nicodemon again soon".

When I gave up for five years, it was the 3 to 6 month period that was the toughest...

Oh no... I'ven been waiting for the 3rd of the terrible 3s to be over and enter in the mo4... and now you say I may have another 3moths to go. Panic panic!!!

Levs, I like your method of tackling each hate one by one. Thank you for those!

I do have a confession to make now tho. Last night I had couple glasses of red wine and was so close to caving in that I had to take one nicotine gum... I wonder if having gum blips with alcohol will end up in getting hooked again :(

Don't think you'll be addicted again, but you will feel slight withdrawal probably...

a MASSIVE WELL DONE to you for not giving in! That must have been a monster craving... also, I can imagine it was quite hard for you to make the decision to have the gum but it's still so much better than the alternative! you easily could have given yourself the excuse that you 'had a few' so you lit up... but you didn't make that excuse for yourself and you should feel so proud of that!

I am too scared of having to go through the worst part of the quit again to even dare to have one puff cause I know I would start to smoke again.

My worst time was the end of Month 2 and well into month 3 that was for me a bad time, what I think people mean is that once you reach 6 months it does get so much easier and the quit becomes second nature.

I hope that you can ride out the storm and not have a cig as you will,

like MichaelF said regret it more than you realise, I quit for 11 months and then started again 20 years ago but after doing that I keep reminding myself how stupid I was so hopefully I will not cave again.

try to quit for one day at a time till it gets easier, and it does I promise.
