Ok I quit 11 days ago

First 7 days with 14mg patch cold turkey day 8 onwards.

But I can only sleep every 3rd night, this is because I am so tired from the 2 nights of missed sleep.

Any one else experience this ?

Hi and welcome to the site.

Day 11 is great well done on getting here.

I personally haven't had any issues with sleeping but I know that some people on here have.

It does get better and it does get easier. Someone on here will have some advice about sleeping. just hang in there

Yup, I definitely had trouble sleeping a few days in. I think it is the nicotin withdrawal and your body adjusts to it. It passed very quickly. Probably had like 3 nights where I had trouble, then it was ok.

What really helps me when I can't sleep for any reason (usually one is pondering something and it doesn't leave you alone) is to concentrate on my breath. Is your breath deep and slow, or shallow and quick. Does your belly lift while you breathe in or your chest? Follow the breath along, just only concentrate on your breath. Slow deep belly breathing would be the best, but doesn't matter if yours is different. Whenever you feel that your mind wanders again to unpaid bills or unsmoked cigarettes etc, catch your attention back to observe your breathing.

Try it out, should work well :)

I have been having trouble sleeping since I quit, but have had other issues that could likely cause sleeplessness so have not really worried about it too much. I do know lots of people suffer from insomnia while quitting, but I am sure it will get better!

Hi Garyuk

Well done on your stopping smoking :) thats a great achievement.

I too have trouble sleeping. I go to bed and wake nearly on the hour all through the night. Im not exactly tierd though during the day its just the disturbed sleep pattern that i seem to be going through, im 26 days in so still early days.

I do think though that insomnia is one of the most common situations we experience whilst quitting and hopefully it will pass soon, i also dont think this time of year helps us because it gets dark early and its colder too so all these things have an effect on us.

You could try and get some Kalms tablets, here is a link on some info for them they actually do help and TBH they are all natural so non addictive, i used these when i had exams or driving test, etc, etc....

Anyhow, i do hope that you get a good nights sleep soon.

Then I remember 'damn I have quit smoking' !

Ha ha no seriously I slept great last night.

3 or 4 days on with no path, but I didwake up mega early bright as a button. Hope this is a lasting side effect cos I get loads more done when I am up early !
