Hi Michelle,

I am just a bit confused, are you already quit and using some form of NRT for help? Or are you planning to quit?

When I failed on my quit I was on patches, and I cut down too early and quickly and then went CT. I struggled at social get togethers and drinking. I am back on the patches. Different things work for everyone. It is true that if you go CT it will be over sooner (nicotine leaving your body that is) but still the cravings will be there. If you feel ready for CT give it a go! If not don't rush yourself. Good luck with it.

Let me know how you get on :)

I would definitely plan a date that works for you. My brain needs to be programmed and prepared. Maybe thats just me. Lets wait for more input. Please don't stress yourself though.

Im with TMB you need to do what feels good for you, no one else can give advice on this one.

If you are scared of just stopping then dont cut down to smaller amounts and longer gaps in between, I cant say I went CT and it worked for me but as we all say we are all so so different, thank goodness, wouldnt it be boring if we were all the same.

Whatever YOU decide keep posting so we know how you are doing and can help if you need it x

Naomi sorry I have already quit using patches but I have freaked myself out about coming off them! Being the blonde airhead I can be at times it never occurred to me that I would have withdrawals from them!!!:o I thought the hard part was stopping the smokes rather than the drug in them! DER!!!

Peter you have really given me some things to think about this morning.....now thinking that maybe a busy time at work may be a good time to remove the patch as i find quiet times the hardest.

Thank you both for responding

Hey Michelle,

Same as me then. I am worrying about when I come off them in a couple of months. They are my safety net at the minute. So have you just finished step 3? Some people have used them for longer that what is advised, or even put a patch on, on a really bad day. Take some deep breaths when the nasty craving comes, if you cant shake it off, do what you have to so long as there is no bloodshed and no cigs involved :D x

Well done so far

Hello Michelle, well done for staying away from cigarettes so far, think the best advice is that the main thing you need to do is remain quit and be vigilant that you're not expecting too much of yourself too soon. the nicodemon can be a tricky demon and will seek ways to break you and get what it wants, a fix.

I myself failed on all my quits prior to this one, I used NRT on them all including this one, I came off after 3 days of using low level nictotine and realistically consider myself to have gone CT.

I am due to come off them in 3 weeks time, but being the worrier i am i have started to worry well in advance so hopefully by the time it comes round i am prepared!! Its just one of those rubbish situations of either prolonging the agony or just biting the bullet and going for it! And as I am rubbish at making decisions on anything that could go wrong or end up not being as good as i expected, i tend to dither and worry about it first.....sometimes i worry because i haven't got anything to worry about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michelle

Stop worrying about CT or patches just go with your gut feeling plan a day if you like you can always change your mind the most important thing is you are still quit, my advise also is if you are really that anxious about losing your comfort zone of your patches is not to do it after all those patches have been brilliant for you so far why fix something that isn't broken ?

not sure if this helps - i am very early on in my quit using patches but I read on here before about someone cutting the patch in half and then half again over a week or two or you could maybe try gum as this will give you just a hit of nic when you think you need it rather than a constant supply throughout the day then just swap the gum for normal gum over a period of time

I did try CT before and I had to have a VERY positive attitude which is not always possible as life is crap somtimes in general - I think that you should be excited about going CT and be looking forward to it in order to succeed with it... dont feel scared or nervous the fact that you are getting ready to come off nic all together is a great thing a real milestone and something to be proud and really happy about!! So well done!!!:)

Been reading all the posts on here, and yes, different things work for different people.

The way I came off the patches (lowest strength ones) was that I forgot to put one on one day and only remembered I hadn't got it on later in the day, so I just started put one on later and later in the day...and now I am off them completely.

Still on the gum, but only using 3-4 pieces a day, so I don't consider that to be much....trying to wind it down now too xx
