Tesco's Pharmacy!!

Hi

I don't know who will be interested in this but my local Tesco's (superstore pharmacy) are doing a programme for 8 weeks where all you have to pay is one prescription price for the whole programme (£7.20) I have had patches and an inhalator with 42 capsules and am going back tomorrow for next weeks supply. They can not do champix or zyban you have to go to your doctors for that. I am presuming that all Tesco's pharmacies are doing this offer.

I was extremely surprised by this offer as I was well prepared to pay for it myself as I had funded my own habit so years but as Tesco's catchphrase says......every little helps ( or a lot in this case)

Hope someone finds this useful........

That's a very good deal. I am coming to then end of a 12 week programme at my chemist which was all on prescription. I have a prepayment card so cost me nothing but you can also get a qaurtely one which would have more than been covered when you considor how much nrt costs. Still cheaper than the old fags though.

This is the same programme that Boots the Chemist run (which is the one I am on) - 12 week programme and you only pay one perscription charge and you get some support, although the support comes in the guise of a quick 10 minute chat....

So you can get Smoking Cessation Support free from Tescos/Boots, dam I wish I had known that at the beginning of my quit, I would have gone to them and got the chocolate that I used profusely to sustain my quit and now find I could have had it for free dam dam dam

Why am I always the last to know, story of my life :D

No, it's not free...you have to pay for one presecription charge - and I had to pay another prescription charge for my second item...

Sorry, yes it was just the one prescription charge, but because I had the patches and the gum, I had to pay a second amount for the second item. If you only need the patches, then you only pay the once...

I had patches and inhalator pack on first visit for just the £7.20 and more patches today at no more charge.......guess they are all doing slightly different deals....its not a fuss as we long as we all end up with the positive end result of being smoke free and it all ends up being cheaper then £35+ a week!

just bought a load of stuff of e-bay!!

at least it kept me occupied watching the clock go down . And still cheaper than the chemists.

I agree that I felt if I could afford smokes -then I can afford the patches etc.

BUT if the govt really wants us all to quit [which I doubt given the tax ] - then I am really pleased . not advertising it though are they?

my nhs no smoking place was just dreadful. No support whatever- and never had the patches they advised . meaning another hour long wait for prescription. Woudnt have minded that if just one person looked vaguely interested.

long live this forum !!xx

Hi,

just to say, not all Tesco's pharmacies are doing the smoking cessation programmes - I work in a small Tesco pharmacy and we aren't doing them. I've offered to be the person doing the support to my manager, if ever they decide to offer the service.

Free cessation clinics here in scotland

Just when you say you have to pay one prescription charge. There is a local smoking cessation clinic run by the nhs which anyone can go to and its completely free, doesnt matter if your on doctors wages or benefits.

Also, if you join the minor ailments service at your local pharmacy, you will get on their smoking cessation for free aswell.

Where are you all paying for this?Is this only free in Scotland?

I have stopped 3 times in the past by using these services for free. I have been working and i havent been working but still its free.Yes they may only give you one NRT method but some give you two.

I am currently with my local pharmacy which is the Co-op. I am not working just now though i've never had to pay...and just to clarify, my friend is at her pharmacy getting free NRT and she is in a different town and working.

I can't believe your having to pay for this, its unheard of these days. Have you tried looking for smoking cessation clinics rather than paying at pharmacies. I know its only one prescription charge but it should be free. :)
