Hi, this is the first time I've ever posted on here although I pop in every night and read all the new posts.I've found it to be a great support just knowing that others feel the same way. There are times when I doubt my own sanity.I have been smoke free since 15.12.09 after smoking for 40 years I was diagnosed with copd but still continued to smoke for another 2 years until the inhalers and steroids didn't help. It's such a powerful addiction, you only find that out when you try to stop.I have been using nrt patches and I'm down to 3mg (I cut them down) I sound pretty pathetic that's because I was a complete addict. Thanks for letting me ramble I feel a bit better. Will post soon now that Ive crossed the thresh-hold. marie.

You are amazing as it is surely harder to give up when you have to other than free will and choice from what Iv read your COPD will get no worse and could improve so hang in there and again congratulations
Here is my poem which I wrote as my mantra
I’m really glad that you’ve quit
Cause in the past you’ve smoked some sh**
Smelly Hair Hands and Breath
Shorter Life but longer Death
Up the hills you’ve got no puff
Smokers cough that makes you rough
So pass each day without the weed
Cause only then will you succeed
So Bravo to all that now don’t smoke
Cause early Death is sure no Joke
xxxxx
a lighter load to carry
thanks everyone your kindness and support means a lot to me. A long journey is much shorter if you have company along the way. marie.
Well done with your decision to stop smoking. I too have COPD and didn't have long between being diagnosed and becoming quite unwell. I used patches which helped me to get used to not picking up a cigarette and eased the cravings until I felt able to deal with it all myself. There is a lot of information in the websites in our signatures which you will find very helpful in getting your head sorted about the nicotine addiction and what to expect as you go along your journey.
We are all nicotine addicts, you are not alone, I welcome you and hope you get what you need from here.
Best wishes.
Jackie
Thanks jackie I'll have a good read until I can get the message into my stupid head. How is your copd doing now?I've noticed a big improvement but lose my voice in the evening!!!!!! marie
Hi Marie,
Good on you for making the decision to quit.
Like yourself & Jackie I have COPD also. Was diagnosed a few years ago also. The more scared I got thinking about it the more I wanted to smoke & the more scared I got. How stupid hey? I am suffering quite badly & KNOW I CANNOT AFFORD NOT TO STOP SMOKING. The consequences are too awful to think about & waiting till it's too late is not an option.
When I stopeed last year for 3 months the change was amazing, my chest was so much better if that helps you at all.
So keep going & keep strong, we're are all with you
Gaynor xx
thanks for your support gaynor it does help. sorry to hear that your copd has worsened, does anything help? light exercises or swimming?
