Day 8 - keeping with it.

I'm on day 8 now and pleased that last week if over and done with.

I've felt my willpower waiver at times especially as hubbie is still smoking.

Don't get me wrong as I can't stand the smell of cigs on him etc but he leaves the pack sitting on the kitchen counter and they 'call to me'!

Yes, I have asked him to keep them out of sight but he hasn't been respecting that request - I suspect he is feeling a bit resentful that I have opted out of the club, so to speak.

Anyhow, that aside, I'm getting there although I'm a bit nervous as I'm going out with a friend tonight for a meal and some drinks. This will be the first time I've drunk alcohol since quitting the cigs. It's going to be a test tonight - has anyone got any hints or tips from their experiences at all?

Hi Amanda,

Well done you on your quit so far.

My hubby smokes as well & after I have been quit a little while it doesn't bother me. He does however keep them on him so I don't turn round & catch sight of them. That is NOT nice in an ealy quit. Pick 'em up & chuck them in a drawer or something, he may get the idea if he has to hunt for them each time he wants one LOL.

As for going out, I found early in a quit I am so determined that it really was not a problem. The other thing would be to not drink (yikes) or to have a couple then switch to soft drinks (oo err). I am sure itt will not be nearly as bad as you think it will be but keep your guard up & have a good time :D

Hi Amanda :D

Great just over a week done and dusted well done

As you're going out with a friend for a meal and a few drinks if it was me I'd limit the amount I drink to just a couple and then use soft drinks just till you're a bit further in your quit that way it won't be such a temptation for you

Having said that enjoy the evening

Love

Well done indeed on day 8.. getting past your first week is a nice milestone and now in your second.. good for you!!!!!

As for these packets of smokes your partner is leaving about?

I would put them in random places out of plain sight. When you get asked if you've seen them.. just say.. no sorry, and then take a comfortable seat and watch how irritability in a current smoker kicks in when they cannot find thier fix.

Estimated time before he starts keeping them out of your way: 3 days - 5 days.

If partner is stubborn by default, add 3 days to the above.

Score bonus points if they crack in less days.

Let the games commence :)

Love it! I am definitely going to play the 'Hide the cigs' game. :D

Last night went really well. I had a lovely evening and have to say, that I was really surprised by my lack of cravings. My friend commented on how much more relaxed I was after our meal, as previously I'd be twitching to get the bill paid up so I could go outside to have a smoke.

It was really nice to hear that, it served as a reminder as to how smoking ran my life and also, that I don't always notice the small postive changes quitting gives.

Now to make a list of hiding places, hehehe....

Its great when you get positive comments like that. Makes it seem so worth while, and you definitely don't miss the having to excuse yourself to go outside :) You'll realise it even more in the cold of winter when you get to stay in the warm :)
