Day 8 Of No Smoking!!!

Hi. I have just registered here. I have given up smoking for 8 days now. I went to the NHS Smoking Nurse and I am on patches. I also have an inhalator but at the moment I am not using it. I know this might sound funny to you people, but I found it more difficult thinking about stopping smoking than actually giving it up!! I have a few cravings but I just ignore them. I have locozade glucose tablets with me just in case the cravings are bad (recomended by my nurse) but I have not used any. I feel quite pleased with myself because I am not smoking. Been smoking for about 30 years on 20 a day. Thank you for this web site and other web sites because I read the messages on the board and they give me encouragement as I know other people is going through the same thoughts and feelings as I am and I know I am not on my own. Hi Julie

Welcome :) Your sounding pretty strong and able...... keep managing those urges and you'll soon see week completed.

I too smoked around a similar amount (roll ups though) and stopped with the help of patches through a Stop Smoking Nurse.

One thing I have read here but wasn't told by my smokey nurse (she knows now though!) is the importance of regular good meals. Blood sugar levels can and do come crashing causing all sorts of odd behaviour and feelings.

For breakfast I used to have a coffee and smoke...... lunch would be soup/bread and smoke for dessert.... the usual to some I guess.

If your nurse has mentioned the glucose tablets then it's sounds like she's aware. Still good to understand though and be prepared just in case.

All the best with continued smoke freedom

ah good for you :) first week done already and now settling into the second already, certainly one of the best things you could have done in preparation for christmas thats for sure.

You'll find this forum an exceptional help for your quit and as you've put, its nice to see other folk have gone through or are going through what you are right now too.

Welcome to the NSD forums.

Good for you Julie !

Hi Julie .....and welcome to the forum.:)

Well done on quitting and being on day 8 , it will get lots easier for you throughout your journey as a non smoker.

I too smoked 20 a day for 30 years and like you I used the patches. I found at first that they were making me itch and had a few problems sleeping ie waking up at daft o'clock in the early hours several times. Having said that ...they certainly made it easy for me and before I knew it I was at the 3 month stage and going forward without them.

Good luck with your quit and enjoy the benefits of getting healthier without the burden of the yucky poison sticks.
