i did follow the 12 weeks program with patches. stepping down 6 weeks at 21, 4 weeks at 14 and 2 weeks at 7. this did work for me even thou iam struggling at the mo. i did try and come off them early but that didnt work for me. I am now at 17 weeks. So give the patches a try. I say try anything that well keep you from smoking. All the best

Hi jimbo, congratulations on deciding to quit. I too am using patches and what ever any of us chooses is the right thing as long as we dont smoke.

I started on 21mg patches 3 weeks ago, i havent worn them through the nite at first i put one on as i got up and took it off before i went to bed, but have put it on later each day and im now on the 14mg patch which was my own chose (not the nurse), there is some great advice from bibleblack about cutting the patches down using scissors after a period of time and im sure he will reply to your message to explain further.

good look and take one day at a time.

Jimbo.... cheer up..... it's not fun to go through these first few weeks but it is do able if you keep a positive attitude and remind yourself of all the good reasons you had in the first place....... I hope the patches work for you! But it is the right frame of mind you need...... don't let that nicodemon bugger get to you...... good luck to you!!!! Keep :):)

Jimbo,

Welcome back to day 1. You do know you can do this, don't you? It's not the aids that do it - it is you and only you. Nothing in the world, not NRT - nor Champix, hypnosis, alien intervention can do it for you. nothing but you buddy.

Do you want to quit?

Yes or no?

It's that simple. We all want you to succeed but we can't do it for you.... you need to find something that works. For me it was simply re-enforcing my choice everday. Looking myself in the mirror and telling myself that I make a concious choice not to smoke today. Every morning. I'm still doing that.

I also wrote in a diary how I was feeling every day. At the bottom of each entry would be a phrase that, although different every time, meant the same as "I am a nicotine addict who chooses not to smoke". I can look back on those times when I have a tough day to see how far I have come and what I would have to go through again if I lapsed.

I still do that everyday too.

Do you want to quit?

Yes or no?

If you do then you have to choose not to smoke. The patches may help you, but if you don't own your choices and then stick by them no matter what.... you will be back here again and again.

It's not always easy to make these choices, at times it is damned hard.... but it isn't that hard. You have done harder things in your life, as have I and as have all of us.

Quitting in itself is not hard. All you have to do is not smoke.

The hard bit is making yourself stick by that choice, no matter what.

Make this the last time you have to go through day 1, my friend. We will all support you, so post your feelings a hundred times a day if needed.... someone will answer. And read, like you've never read before.... read this forum, read the links in my sig and then read anything else you can find.

Knowledge is power.

You can do this, Jimbo. We know you can.

I can't say anymore. Jim is the patch man. I used them for three weeks and cut them down. It helped me to have them to start but then hindered me personally. Its the mental side you need to work on! Read read read!
