I'm still alive and still not smoking!

Not feeling any different though to be honest. Still get short of breath, no more energy than normal and things taste the same lol..

Is this normal? Could it be because i only smoked 5 years? Am i expecting too much too soon?

It's all a bit disappointing really. Don't worry i'm not going to start again, i know i'd be wasting money and killing myself in the process. Just wish i was benefiting a little more to make it feel more worthwhile.

On the UP side i've saved about 140 quid!

Hey Dan,

I smoked 18 years and I really don't feel much different at this point.... I actually heard myself wheeze the other night (just a little but still I was surprised!) My face is maybe a bit more healthy looking (per friends) but that's all...... BUT I am no longer poisoning myself.... I am not in constant withdrawal.... I don't rush out when I meet friends, excusing myself early so I can go run and smoke, I smell good, I have tons of extra time to do things I used to not do, more money, god I can go on..... WHAT is disappointing about that??? A quit with such a negative view is harder to maintain... so cheer up, look at what you have achieved, and stay quit. Oh, and welcome to the 'been fine since feb 09 team'... I'll add your name if you like.

hiya new teamate (Dan) bellablue and Marg. I don't feel much different really, smell better. Something must be happening though. The long white strip along my tongue that would have turned cancerous with continuous smoking is eventually fading (so the doctors were right) and hopefully when I go back to hospital in May it will be gone. Another thing I've noticed, on each cheek I have a big patch of little broken veins (thought they were from drinking) well one side has nearly gone and the other side is clearing too, so I am getting the benefits quicker than I thought. Hi David :D

As you say something is happening and I am so pleased for you, the white strip is fading and those veins on your face are going as well that's great and very soon you will notice many more of the benefits

I am noticing them all the time Marg, from grandchildren to wife, to the house and to me, so many benefits, can't think of one negative in stopping smoking. I had to buy a disposable lighter the other day for the smokers at the centre, keep it in my drawer, I'm a non smoker now you see. Love. David

I am loving the benefits.

I have really noticed the improvement in breathing, the skin improvement and just feeling "clean".

My sense of smell is the scariest thing that appears to have quadrupled in sensitivity (along with my teeth grrrrrr). I can pick up the smell of smoke at 50 paces!! Ha Ha!

Just knowing I dont smoke is the best benefit of all.

I totally agree nogarD, great isn't it. In nearly 5 weeks I've only been asked for a light twice, first time in the betting shop, and before I could answer, the bloody manager sung out "He doesn't smoke" gobby cow her lol. David

HEY HEY Dan well done you!!!!!!!!!!

Still on the puffinless wagon whoo hoO!!!!!

I've managed to stop the pills now and not feel any effects from it so i do feel lucky.

Just had a week away and feel great for it, felt sorry for the puffers that had to go outside the pub for a fag and then withdrew the pity when they wafted their fusty smell on there way back in............

Well done and i'll see you in the next room!!!!!!

Hi Dan

I think you may be lucky enough to have stopped before inflicting serious damage on youself. I notice your only 20 - trust me, after 20 odd years of smoking, I've noticed a great improvement over the past 7 weeks since I stopped, but I have also been living with a fear that since I have been so ill during my quit, I have smoked that one fag that's given me something! Sore throats, pains in chest etc.....I was scared stiff lol & I'm only 36!

By quitting now, you will get the full benefits. I wish I had quit when I was 20, or any age before now, or preferably, never started in the first place!

Look on it as a positive thing :) The scary thing is they say you do more damage the younger you start - you were 15, I was about the same age - Please don't give up the quit and find yourself where I am now, worrying about your poor lungs :)
