Hi all! I'm new on here and today I have decided to quit smoking. Its not that long and considering I really want to quit, I'm amazed how many times I have thought '' sod it I'm buying some''
But I haven't. Does it get worse than what I'm feeling now?

Well done for deciding to quit - brilliant decision!
The truth is, quitting is different for everybody. Some people sail through it while others struggle. If you are not using any form if NRT then it takes three dsys for the nicotine to leave the body. After this you hit the mental battle which can continue for a while.
All of this is very much dependent on how long and how much you smoke. The thing to remember is that cravings pass and quitt ing is an achievable goal.
Welcome Rach3004 and congratulations on day 1 of the best journey of your life! Are you doing it cold turkey? I quit over 22 months ago cold turkey and it truly was one the best thing I have done in my life, yeah, it was a bumpy road, very bumpy road at times but so worth it. You will never ever regret quitting. Below is a pinned post with helpful pinned links if not already read particularly the withdrawals and timescales on recovery.
It is very early days for you and if going cold turkey, the nicotine will be out of your system by the end of day 3 and then the mental battle will begin as your body and mind begins its hard work on rewiring, repairing and recovering - but as each day passes, the easier and stronger you will become. Be kind to yourself, lots of water, deep breathing, bit of exercise and be prepared to attack at all times and embrace it. Just take it hour by hour, day by day....

You've made the right decision to quit. The first week for me was the real battle because of the habit of buying cigs everyday it was hard not to do it, but I realised that if I caved I would never quit so I stayed strong. Drink lots of water, keep your mind occupied and most of all think of all the benefits of not smoking, there are no benefits at all to continue. keep strong
Hi all ! thanks for the support and encouragement. I won't beat about the bush the last three days have been hell on earth but I have not given up! Its been four days and one hour since my last cigarette. My partner bless him has put up with my awful mood swings ( awful is putting it lightly ) grinding my teeth during sleep. To be fair I have been hell to live with 24/7.
I'm feeling normal / stable today. Im hoping the worst is over? what do you guys mean by cravings? could you explain what you consider a craving to be please?

As posted in my previous one above, if going cold turkey, the nicotine is out of your system now and the mental battle has begun, I think what is going to be key for you now is knowledge, know what is happening when you quit - a smoking craving is the same as any other craving - like craving a bar of chocolate, bag of crisps - its where you really, really want it and would do anything for it, in quitting though, the whole journey is battling through a craving for a cigarette as it just is not an option and needs all your strength and focus to resist..

I gave up last November it gets better I had phumonia was in hospital for 4days never thought about a cigarette so I thought right that's it no more cigarettes it was easier than I thought good luck
