Sure fire cure. Send me all your money, bank cards and car keys.

Job done.

Day 5 was hard for me too. You need to find some time to re affirm your intentions. Read a bit, try the links in peoples signatures on here. Hopefully after a few minutes you will feel a little more positive. However, if that doesn't work - drive yourself to a shop and by some.... chewing gum ;)

Then leave your car where it is and walk for a while, I do this frequently walk and chew for at least 15 minutes - it's amazing how much difference it makes for me. I guess I am lucky having a beach in walking distance, but is there a place with nice scenery you can go? A park, river, something like that?

Stay strong, once you beat the worst that nicotine has to throw at you its a wonderful feeling of power.

You can do it - there is nothing in this world that is made better by smoking. The cravings will go away whether you smoke or not, I promise. Just choose not to smoke now. Read some, walk some and then if necessary choose not to smoke now.

Good luck, I hope the day gets a little easier for you :)

Hi Stuart

Thanks for the reply. There's not really anywhere to go for a nice walk close by as i'm from Bradford lol. It's throwing it down as well but i am busy after work for most of the afternoon/evening with one thing and another, so hopefully i'll be kept too busy to give in to the cravings

The only thing i can think that i've done differently today is not brought any sweeties to work with me :o I also went to sleep in a bad mood 'cos i was craving for a ciggi too!

Geez this is hard, i thought i'd be feeling stronger than this now. I'm going to do lots of reading again once i get home tonight. I'm not giving in!!!!

The first week is normally the hardest, it seems to get easier for nearly everyone after day 7. Little consolation now, but not far to go.

What I tend to do is look back on what I have achieved so far.

Getting through day 1! That was an awesome feeling... got me so worked up during day 5 that I would rather have eaten my arm than smoke a cigarette and have to do that again.

Then during a bad day in week 2 I looked back at the previous few days that had been much easier... I realised that my bad day was a blip and tomorrow would probably be easier again, then went for a walk :)

Do what you need to do to "not smoke today". Worry about the rest later ;)

There are good days and bad, but you do have the strength to get through the bad ones, and over time they become fewer and fewer.

Hang on in there and it will get better really soon.

As Stuart said, concentrate on what you have achieved so far, it would be such a waste to have completed 4 days smoke free, fail and have to go right back to square 1.

All the best

Nic

MrsR people who know you are quitting will tell you everyday between now and infinity will be bad - just go with the flow, no day is worse than any other but you can be certain it will get better!

Stay with it, promise it gets better :)

But i'm not sure i feel like this, i've had really strong moments but if i'm honest the days are either bad or really bad !!! I find i'm wishing my life away as well, as i just want to go to bed asap and sleep so i'm through another day. I know i sound pathetic and so weak but today really has been horrendous for me.

I'm proud that i've got through today (well, almost)! i just really don't think i can face many more days like this one :(

Thanks for all the encouragement and messages of support. I really appreciate them and know i'd have crumbled by now without them.

The days you wish away will be more made up for by stopping smoking now, you have proved to yourself that you are strong and you not only can but are doing this. Hang on in there, plenty of people have and as they often say if I can then you can and its true.

If you like I'll re-phrase it as - Bad days and worse days will become good days and not so good, but it does get better and will for you. It does for everyone!

Allow yourself to believe that and you may find it less hard, but most of all accept that there is no benefit to smoking and it is lack of nicotine which is making you feel bad, if you give in now you will still want to quit and will have to go through this all over again.

So ask yourself if giving in would be worth it? You know the answer is no without having to think about it!

You are right to feel proud of yourself and I really hope that tomorrow is better.

All the best

Nic

Hi Louise

you are going through, what many call "Hell Week".

It may not be pleasant for you but rest assured, it is nearly over.

You have done sooooo welllllllll!! Don't you dare give in now!!!!!

Have a read at many of the articles here:

woofmang.com/tales/index.shtml

There is a lot of inspiration on those pages.

Read as much as you can and you will realise that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It does get easier i promise (as do many of the others on here).

If you feel you are going to give in , post on here and DO NOT smoke until you have had 4 replies. And dont let a "F$%K IT! i'm just going to smoke moment catch you unawares. Make any decision to have a puff a very conscious decision.

You are nearly past the first week. After that it will get easier (a lot easier). I won't say easy because that could give you a false impression but trust me it WILL get easier.

Stay strong Louise.

Another thing to remember that no matter how bad withdrawal symptoms may feel they are not life threatening, unlike smoking!
