Hi all! i am on day 3 of my quit and its going great (YAY ME!!) but i have a night out planned with old friends one of whom is travelling over from Germany so i HAVE to go! :eek: the thing is they smoke, shouldn't be too much of an issue as i don't want to smoke but i have stayed off the alcohol while quitting because i have found that the two things kind of go hand in hand, i am worried about drinking on friday and wanting to smoke, any advice????? please???? (please don't say don't drink, i have already decided to stay away from wine as this is the worst for me, and i'm taking a support buddy with me, my other half doesn't smoke and he will be there to stay inside with me while the others dissapear for a cancer stick!) so please any advice or tips greatly appreciated!!!!!

If you wish to drink, fine - just don't drink too much, keep your wits about you.

Perhaps most importantly, make sure that everyone you are going with knows that you are quitting and that you will be staying inside.

Then, do a rain dance so they get wet and you don't :D

Just have fun, but be on your guard at the same time. I dreaded my first night out without the smokes... but now the ban is in place it was surprisingly easy... it even made the night more pleasant not having to explain to people why I was going outside... AGAIN.

Helen, my advice to you would be to turn the situation on its head and tell your smoking mates how great it is to be free. You also need to face your triggers, so instead of avoiding drink you should quickly prove to yourself that you can drink without smoking. I find the hangovers are nowhere near as severe since I stopped. Coincidence????

Have a nice night, just dont smoke:D

Hi,

Like others have said don't have too much to drink, revel in the fact that you don't have to nip outside, and great advice that John gave when someone else asked this question a few weeks back was smell your friend when they come back from a smoke and you won't want to join them!

All the best

Nic

I think you may have answered this yourself Helen. Your partner will be with you and as he's a non smoker, I'm sure he'll want to give you all the support he can. Have a heart to heart before you go, tell him how serious you are about staying stopped, don't overdo the booze and have a great time.

Helen - it's simple - JUST DON'T GO OUTSIDE!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

Seriously, when your pals come back inside, soaking wet, shivering and stinking of fags, you'll be sooooooo glad you are now a non smoker! :D

Oh, and enjoy!!!
