Well I am now an official Week 3 resident. Again. Not much has changed...still kinda messy in here.
Anyway, I just read on the back of my solpadeine plus box (painkillers) that codeine is addictive and should only be taken for 3 days at a time  Noooooooooo! I NEED these tablets. They are the only thing keeping my toothache at bay (rather, my toothless toothache lol Had an extraction).
I cannot do without these tabs. However, I don't particularly want to trade one addiction for another either  It would just be MY LUCK to become addicted to codeine
What other painkillers can I take that are good but do not contain codeine????
Thanks in advance!

Thanks CW. I was taking Ibuprofen before buying these solpadeine ones. The solpadeine ones are of the soluble variety because my jaw is sore and swallowing tabs was uncomfortable so I stopped using Ibuprofen and went on to the solpadeine ones.
However, I think I should go back to the Ibu tabs. Don't want to be a codeine junkie too! lol ok...over dramatising now...
Oh don't say that Nicky. I can't go back to the dentist. I just can't. I'm terrified of them and how I let that dentist go anywhere near me with a needle and then the scary looking tools is beyond me.
I can't have an infection already can I? I had a tooth extracted because I had cracked it pretty bad. I had the tooth out 4 days ago.
I tell you what tho, not even my wisdom teeth hurt this bad when they were taken out! Walk in the park they were compared to this.
The dentist took 3 long attempts at pulling my tooth out...do you just think he hurt my jaw bone pretty bad? The back of my jaw also hurts pretty good too, I put this down to the pressure the dentist put on it to get the tooth out.
Please don't say I have to go back! I can't. Its way too sore to have someone prodding around my teeth/gums. I have to say though, there is an unpleasant smell emanating from the wound site...its not nice Yeah I know that sounds real manky but I want to be honest in case someone has been through this and can offer their help too!
Thanks CW. Going to go and google 'dry socket' now.
I did come across that term prior to my dentist apptmt to find out some info on tooth extraction. I think I can remember bleeding a fair bit was one of the symptoms of dry socket...
Ok. Gonna go check it out. Thanks again. I really can't tell you how fed up of this crap I am
Ok. Just had a brief look and dry socket certainly seems possible. Yes I had a difficult extraction. The dentist used a couple of different tools to get the tooth out. I guess I just got unlucky with a friggin' incompetent dentist. I'm so friggin' mad at him. I've been thinking this for a couple of days now.
I'm sure he has torn my gum also. I know I shouldn't touch the wound site, but I do very occasionally to make sure I haven't got any food sitting there. But a couple of times I have tried to touch the outside of my gum (nearest my lips) where the tooth was and it is kinda loose ish. To be expected I suppose but it feels kinda 'jagged' also.
I guess I'm gonna have to go back to the bloody dentist but I will demand to see a competent one this time.
Well it turns out I DO have dry socket and a lovely infection to boot. Oh joy. Aren't I just the lucky one? Bet you're all dead jealous of my afflictions but no don't even go there...you're not having it. I want it. Its mine, all mine! Awww ok then...here you go, have it if you must...I'll try not to miss it too much
I saw a dentist this morning at another surgery and he seemed to know what he was doing which was a huge relief. He packed the hole with something, can't remember what exactly it was now. I am armed with some anti biotics and some Corsodyl! Along with painkillers I have already bought. Was up half the night last night with the toothache pain and let me tell you, it was no fun, so I'm doing my best to batter this thing with everything that I can!
Thanks to CW again for her helpful post re dry socket and all you other lovely people!
Thank God you got corsodyl Maddy. I think that may help with the smell that others have mentioned on other posts.
*runs away and hides*
ggrrrr
oh and LOL
Yeah maybe John! Its my very stinky mouth gassing everyone  Mind, didn't think it was bad enough to spread across the whole of England and beyond...Oh well!!
Actually I can't smell the nasty smell right now. My whole mouth smells like dentist's room, which is an improvement on the niffy smell. No doubt that will return soon! Bliss. Mind, hopefully the anti biotics will take affect soon and I can then stop gassing the whole of the UK
You're so mean you are!! lol 'At least before the wind begins to blow north...' Meanie! Here I am, in PAIN..and all you are worried about is a nasty niff?
