My name is Mark and Im a nicotine addict

It feels like my first meeting, so Ill stand up and introduce myself. My name is Mark and Im a nicotine addict. Or rather I was. I started smoking foolishly when I was 16 and have been kidding myself that i would give up soon ever since. I celebrated my 40th birthday in April!!

Previously I have not gone more than 2 days without a cigarette in all them years. It was too much to bear. I am now on day 16 and cannot believe how easy it has been.

Although this is my first post, I have had a good read around the forum and have noticed how hard some people are finding it. I know Im probably going to be shot down in flames now, but for those that are finding it hard, have you read Allen Carrs book The Easyway to give up Smoking. If the answer is no, what have you got to lose. It really is a little book of magic.

Ive not come here to preach, but I must share my experience with you.My sister lent me the book 3 years ago, but I never got round to reading it until now. I wasted 3 years and I know I will never smoke again

Good luck everybody. Have a wonderful smoke free Chrismas

  • I havent read the book Mark , i didnt know it existed when i quit. i seem to be winning with patches and sheer determination ha! Welcome anyway we are all here for the same reason and the forum is a great place to learn from others and support eachother, Good luck Mark

  • Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. I've Allans Book thats targeted especially to women. Whilst I agree with alot of his ideas I do think that in the end people do whats best FOR THEM. eg One of his theories is that willpower is not required - I'm afraid I cannot concur with that. Still whatever works for you GO FOR IT!:)

  • I would be very interested (out of curiousity) in reading the Allen Carr book but I'm abit too tight to fork out the cash for a new copy as I've already got over that hurdle.

    :D

  • i have a small version that i am going to send to Charlene when i get it back from someone i lent it

i have the bigger one spare, i can send it to you if you like :)

sharkbait sent them to me :D

    Oooooh yes please!

    How much + postage?:D

  • you can download his other book "scandal" off the website and i think it pretty much outlines what's in his original book.

I gave up using his "method" but without ever having read his book.

Having "enjoyed" smoking for 25 years and despite having a sackful of qualifications I felt a bit of a "thicky" when I read about his method and leapt off the sofa in one of those "eureka" moments. Still, to be 4 weeks smoke free with no cravings, no weight gain (yet) and no willpower, you can call me anything, I'm far too happy to pay a great deal of attention. :D

I have grown a little more confident since my first post and I AM now here to preach.

If you havn't read Allen Carrs book THE EASYWAY TO GIVE UP SMOKING do it. In my experience the title of the book says it all.:D:D

    Couldn't agree more Mark!!!!!!

Yes i am smug about this but when i read on here about how hard some people have found quitting (most of them never having read the book) then i think i am entitled to be.

I have found this quit (which is definitely my last!!!) to be actually, pretty easy . It wouldn't have been easy without Allen Carr's wisdom.

  • Bump

Failing that as Worzel used to say "Have a nice cup o tea an a slice o cake Aunt Sally";)

  • Wow I forgot..... 8 years later and I don't even think about it, until now that is lol.

Wonder how the righteous few who "welcomed me are getting on""

    Have a Great Christmas
