So I'm in my second week now. I can't remember whether it's day 8 or 9, all I know is that it's my second week of non smoking and I am completely and utterly jaded.
Oh don't get me wrong - I'm not about to go out and have a smoke - I'm too stubborn to let something so insignificant control me, (if you look at it I guess the average cigarette size is about 100mm?) I'm just wanting to vent spleen in the appropriate company and give some confirmation to others where it seems appropriate.
OK. So last night's sleep was dreadful. And so was the night before. It's strange that the cravings during the day I can cope with! (I can't remember the last time something kept me awake at night.) So now I have two things to complain about - cravings for cigs AND longing for sleep!
On the plus side - my breathing is improving no end. I can feel the difference each time I cough - all that sh!t on my lungs is coming off and it really does feel great! I don't stink like an ashtray - and I can smell other smokers DO smell like an ashtray! I seem to have more spare change in my pocket AND I'm not constantly hunting around for a lighter or hanging around a street corner! All these benefits PLUS I'm reducing my chances of getting some horrible illness later in my life!
Today is a good day. I know it is!
I just bloody well hope I get a good night's sleep tonight!

I can totally sympathise with you. After the first few days of feeling practically euphoric that I'd quit I slumped big time and hit the depression stage.
It's so good that you're still saying how determined you are not to smoke. Hold onto that thought! I think the main problem you're dealing with now is feeling cr*ppy from lack of sleep rather than anything to do with smoking. The smoking has stopped, it's in the past - so no need to worry about that one! Right then, onto the sleeping... I'm sure you've probably thought of all of these but have you tried:
*having a bath in the evening, maybe with a relaxing scent like lavender.
*winding down properly rather than racing round all night then going to bed. Maybe after a bath get all snuggled up in your lovely clean smelling pjs and read a book for a while
*write down anything that's on your mind and tell yourself you'll deal with it in the morning
*don't beat yourself up about not sleeping - don't lie there getting stressed, get up and do something else until you feel tired again.
*try to get some exercise during the day so you're tired by the time you get to bed. With all the extra oxygen getting around your system you can be so much more active.
And above all remind yourself that this stage will pass - and that a few days of interrupted sleep are so worth it for a lifetime of not smoking.
I am on day 10 as of this post Diablo and I am having the same issues. It is 4 am and I am still awake because I have terrible insomnia from quitting.
By far Day 9/10 has been my hardest since Day 3 of my quit. I don't know why but my cravings have skyrocketed the last couple of days.
All I can say is this is my 5th serious attempt at quitting smoking so I "know" it gets easier on the 3rd and 4th week. The Entire month 2 is about like your 4th week.
After 2 months go by, provided you aren't an idiot like I was and start again because you were "young and dumb" you will have it beat to the point where you laugh at the fact that you get an occasional craving.
It did pass but it seemed like a terrible terrible phase that lasted for AGES. Buffy suggested a massage, but she never turned up, so I can't be sure if that works or not.
You will get through this part of it. And then you'll be laughing - you'll be smoke-free and getting a good night's kip!
