Hello all! I am currently sitting in my hospital bed, day 2 post transplant! My donor and I are both recovering great; although the anaesthesia did a number on both of us. She was able to do her surgery laparoscopically, but they did a hand assist so one of her incisions is a little larger than expected. I, on the other hand, was filleted open like a fish. I have a big "L" shaped incision that covers the entire right side of my abdomen. I was sort of shocked at how large it is, but given I'm so small, I'm not at all surprised. I was upgraded to regular food today, which mostly comprises of fruit and some sort of protein. I was also taken off of my fluids and my hand IV's were taken out a day ahead of schedule! I was given a lot of information about life post transplant, which includes 17 new medications (22 new pills), a new diet that is thankfully not super drastic, but still will take time to get used to, and learning about how to use a glucometer. I also did my baseline bone scan, since a big concern for my age and having kidney disease for so long includes the onset of osteoporosis while on prednisone.
Besides some side affects, like twitching and having a weird taste in my mouth from the anaesthesia, I feel great. I'm hopeful that my neck IV and my catheter will be removed tomorrow and I can go home! It's been a very emotional last few days, between suddenly having pigment to my skin (it is so weird- I have scars that I didn't notice before because my skin was so pale), actually having energy to get up and move (and actually wanting to!) And having a normal urine output is entirely alien to me. I know that I still have a long way to go, but I thought I would give you guys an update! Stay tuned, I'll keep you all posted as I progress!

She is doing very well! Once the anasthesia wore off and her stomach went back to normal her heal time was fairly quick. Her incisions are pretty much healed and she went back to school a few weeks ago!
