Where on earth do you start?! I stepped on the scales this morning and just thought 'this is ridiculous'.

Morning hudson95

Welcome to the weight loss forum.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Hi As someone who has been there (unfortunately several times) and with an overall goal similar to yours, I would say say just start with very small goals and extend them as time goes on. I used to watch my weight going up weekly and feel unable to do anything about it - but once you make that first step and get some results it does become easier 😊 Unfortunately it took a health scare to kick me into action this time....

Thank you pinkhairedgirl :) I think that's probably the best way - I've always tried to lose weight in the past but never 'seriously' before. I read your post, congratulations on losing almost a stone already! I'm sorry to hear about your angina, health scares are horrible. My mum was recently diagnosed with cancer and it made me realise that I don't want to write myself off as 'fat' for the rest of my life, as I am only 22. We can do it :)

You're right :) if you think about it all at once it gets overwhelming!

If you are always struggling to be able to lose weight do make sure you are eating enough calories daily by checking out the NHS bmi calculator and this tells you a personal amount of calories you should be having to be able to lose weight. The other sites like my fitness pal are good and free for adding up calories but not for telling you how much to eat as they are only average amounts they tend to give to everyone. If you do not eat enough your body thinks you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes means your putting weight on as well. This is what my problem was with every other diet I did and nobody ever told me this until I joined here so I didn't know. Once I upped my calories here I started losing weight and have now lost 2st. Please don't make this mistake as well and good luck with your journey.

As other have said set small goals. I need to lose a similar amount, but set smaller goals. I've lost 19lb so far and my next goal is to see 11st something on the scales (3lb to go), dont think I could have stuck to it if I was looking to see 9 or 10 on scales
