Best Calorie counter & food diary

I've never counted calories before. I've just now used the NHS one for my breakfast and although it lists butter and rapeseed oil it doesn't list olive oil. Is there a better one that's still free please. Is there a good free app that will record these in a good diary and add up as I go along please? Thanks in advance!

I'm a bit of a dinosaur and created my own Excel spreadsheet but I believe a lot of people here use MyFitnessPal.

I've just downloaded 'my fitness pal' but it seems very clunky - I can't find how to add to the food diary! It seems to want me to upgrade. But maybe I'll have another look. Thank you!!

I'm sure others here will be able to help you more.

I use My fitness pal, it does take a bit of getting used but once you have used it for a while most of the foods you eat on a regular basis will be stored and will come up when you start typing the name of it.

If you scroll down the diary page there are sections to add Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snacks, Exercise and Water.

When you add exercise it will add the amount of calories burnt to your daily calorie goal.

Hope this helps a bit, any more questions, just ask

I'm afraid I'm with Tiggerr here, TwentyOver, I could never get to grips with mfp! I find that Google is great for calorie counts :)

I am doing and A to Z list and looking at the packages and working out that way. Or I google it. hubby seems to like Arithmetic and has been helping me work things out. it's a challenge when one is working though.

I use the Nutracheck one because it is ad free. You do have to pay for it though! App is buggy for me but the guys are looking into the issues and they couldn't be more helpful. The website is great and you can view reports and stuff showing your bad days etc. Did download the MyFitnessPal app but didn't like all the adverts so uninstalled almost immediately.

I use the Nutrackeck too. I thought the cost was less than the slimming clubs I've used before. I think its really good and has helped me a lot.

Do you use the Android version or on iOS? My version keeps crashing.

Doesn't it say on the bottle?

I like the spray bottles that tell you the calories per squirt 😊

I'm using MFP too. Only realise yesterday you can scan barcodes of food and it comes up with calories for a portion

Just tried it on my oil and it worked.(yes I'm on the free version)

I forgot to mention the bar code scanner, I used it all the time to start with but now I have most foods I eat scanned lol.

Free is always best lol

I agree with some others here concerning MFP, it‘s simply not my cup of tea. It was often very difficult for me to find a specific food. So I changed to the YAZIO App, because I had heard much good reports. Admittedly the App also has some features that have to be paid for, but the pure food diary for calorie counting is free. I never had problems finding food in the data base and even if something isn‘t listed, I create it simply by myself. So at the next input the problem is solved. A Barcode Scanner is also integrated. I am completely satisfied with YAZIO :) Maybe you also want to get an idea of it: yazio.com/en

I use MFP. I like the fact that you can dreate your own meals on an ingredient by ingredient basis and save them to the database I find this invaluable for cooking from scratch. I use quite a lot of not very run of the mill ingredients and have never found anything it doesn't have listed yet. You can always add anything that isnt in there. I have found a few things I disagree with the calorie count or macro breakdown but again, it is easy to custmise to your own spec.

Also free version, btw.

I use MyFitnessPal and find it really easy to use. I like the fact you can scan in barcodes
