Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 5.8 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 2.4 pounds, so I've lost 3.4 pounds this week. I am happy! I really tried to focus on eating healthy foods this week, and watching my portion sizes, and I managed to exercise most days too. My goal is to lose a pound this week.
Susybenj is still on holiday in Spain I think, so I've totted up the pounds lost by our Monday group (as per Suzybenj's excellent idea that we could keep a weekly tally of our progress).
The stats are as follows:
Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 34.
Total people who lost weight: 21 (45.75 pounds lost) (20.75 kilos lost)
Total people who gained weight: 1 (3 pounds gained) (1.36 kilos gained)
Total people who maintained weight: 6
Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 3
Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 3
Therefore, overall pounds lost by the group = 42.75 pounds (19.39 kilos). Fantastic results!!! Very inspiring!!!
I hope you'll join us for today's weigh-in, and good luck to everyone - here's to a great week ahead for all of us.

Well done for maintaining your weight this week - it is always better than gaining, and it's an achievement in itself. Keep going, and wishing you a good week ahead.
Lowcal, You must be absolutely delighted that sounds like a great week.
Me also good although looking at your numbers I realise I am making slower progress than most of you. Last week I weighed 95.5 , this morning, end of week 9 I weigh 95.0. My first goal - to lose 5kgs - is finally finally reached. Onwards and downwards. 🏄🏻
Spent the weekend cycling blindly through the rain so my goal next week is to try contact lenses! I also have some great meals planned.
Congratulations on losing 0.5 kilos this week, that is really good! Like you say, "onwards and downwards".
Must have been challenging cycling blindly through that rain - good idea to try the contact lenses this week! It's great that you've got some good meals planned too - I think that pre-planning is really good!
I was doing the 'stats count' today, and I just wanted to say that I also would like to Congratulate you on achieving your first goal i.e. to lose 5kgs (11 pounds) in total. All achieved by the end of week 9. That's really great.
Hope you've got those contact lenses ready for your next cycle ride - hopefully no more rain to contend with.
Brilliant work Lowcal. Knew you would do it this week, congratulations.
Well last week was 13st 0.2lbs and this week 13st 1.2lbs so gained a pound and still not made it into the 12's Had a pretty rotten time with a knee (and hip) that prevented me from going to the gym and in turn that made me feel really miserable. I don't know anyone here in Lincoln and at times it makes me feel really alone seeing friends out having coffee together and I have no one to even talk to. It's also been cold & miserable, resorted to putting heating on a couple of times and I've just tried to cheer myself up by having comfort food..... no more!
I thought I might get to know people if I signed up to Slimming World in our village and although the leader was really good at going through the programme it stopped there. There was no welcome, no introduction to anyone and it made me feel even worse than ever. So it's been a feel sorry for myself week and of course compared to other people and their problems I'm just being totally selfish. So time to stop whinging and get back into my routine with a smile.
So sorry to hear you've had troubles with your knee and hip and therefore you couldn't get to the gym, as you'd hoped. I can imagine that would make you feel miserable, and I hope it doesn't last too long. Having cold and miserable weather on top is horrible, and I know you're feeling some isolation too.
It was good that you ventured to the group support via the Slimming World. Sorry that you didn't find it helpful though. Maybe they take a while to 'warm up' to new members? It might be worth trying one more time - or maybe you have decided one time was enough, but maybe there might be some other avenues you could try to meet some more people. I think it's very tough when you've just moved somewhere.
You're not being selfish at all - it's good to vent our feelings sometimes, especially in a supportive environment, and I think this group is very supportive - so glad you come here to share your progress. You are a very lovely member of our group and overall community! Hopefully things will get much better for you as your pain subsides. Pain is one of the worst things to cope with sometimes.
It's understandable that you've gained a pound, and that is a minuscule amount of weight in comparison to your overall weight loss - so just put it behind you, and here's to a more positive week ahead for you, and for all of us.
Hey Candystripe. It sounds like a bad combination of circumstances and I agree 1lb is miniscule compared to what you've achieved so far. Maybe keep trying to make contacts through other things as well as the slimming world, so that you're not expecting too much from it at the next meeting. I've been to Lincoln this year on a daytrip and there were lots of things I didn't get to explore. Have you been on a big tour round all the ancient bits of the town yet, the cathedral high on the hill etc? Sometimes rambling around can help you feel at home somewhere. Hope this week picks up
Thank you so much Ruth. Yes I've done that but I just don't find anything that inspiring when I do it alone!!!
I have tried the village tea/coffee afternoons on a Tuesday. Went to one and it was ok then the following week was cancelled, the following Tuesday I had my step daughters graduation, the following Tuesday I had my aunts funeral and now it's the school hols and finished until the new school term! Just go on talking to myself I guess!!!
Have some lovely people here on this site tho and thank you for making me feel better! X
Village tea/coffee afternoons sounds heavenly. I bet it's absolutely fine to just drop in when you can. I'm trying to join a running club that meets on Tuesday evenings, but tomorrow's my boyfriend's birthday and next Tuesday it's my friend's wedding, so I'm feeling a bit scuppered already. Also wondering if mid-August is the best time of year to join a running club. But this journey is all about having supportive people around you, so it's just about persevering, finding those people and keeping the big picture in mind. Hope you have a more upbeat week this week and find the support you need either on here or more locally
Hi Candystripe am just reading these posts at the end of the day. Am so sorry you had such a tough week, you described it very vividly, all the factors combined that make weight watching seem irrelevant at times. I am glad you vented and there is nothing at all selfish about describing it as it is. Hope slimmers world is friendlier next time or that your week improves. 💐
Hi Candystripe, you've done a brilliant job, this is just a blip in your journey. It is really hard moving to a new area where you don't know anyone. Even going into the weight watchers class the first time is nerve racking, so give yourself a pat on the back for that. Have you thought about. Ringing up the ww leader before your next meeting and asking her to do and introductions bit for the next week. When I was a memeberhip of a slimming group we did that every month or so, going around the circle and giving a brief chat about who & where we were in our weight loss journey etc?
Hopefully it'll stop raining enough this week for you to get outside, take care.
Thank you Cass your advice is good. I shan't give up trying with Slimming World and perhaps now I know what the routine doesn't include then I can at least start talking to people!
Sounds like you're having a pretty difficult time right now. It's hard enough trying to shed the pounds without having to contend with joint pain at the same time, it's a big ask especially when your still establishing a circle of friends and acquaintances in your area.
You sounded quite positive at the end of your post so I'm hoping this coming week will be much better for you. Have you checked out your local newspaper for friendship groups? My local village church, (don't have to be a church goer) has a fortnightly drop in coffee morning, there may be something similar where you live.
Chin up Candystripe, you can see from these posts that you are held in high regard by people here. I, along with everyone else wish you well and hope your hip and knee pain eases, treat yourself with some of our yummy seasonal fruits, spoil yourself this week Candystripe...you know you're worth it! Sending hugs to you.
That is so kind of you thank for your lovely words.
Yes we have a local magazine but everything stops here during the school holidays, except Slimming World! At least I know that I have to do the talking now, trouble is, I might not stop lol!
I always treat myself with fruits and buy a plentiful supply of cherries which are my all time favourite!
I have a little treat in store for myself tomorrow, well it's quite a big treat so looking forward to that.
Have a great week and I will promise to do better! Thank you X
Hey lowcal, well done you. That's a great result. I have lost. 0.5lbs this week which I'm happy with. I had a very off track w.e. Planning to get back on strictly this week and would like to get 2lbs off. Have joined the gym and am enjoying the fitness classes, so hoping that will help my goal.
Congratulations to you for losing 0.5 pounds this week. You mentioned having a 'very off track weekend' - I hope you enjoyed the weekend though. I think weekends are challenging times, and I definitely usually eat more at that time of the week.
Great to hear you've joined the gym, and that you're enjoying the fitness classes. Sounds really good.
Good luck with your goal to lose 2 pounds this week - wishing you a great week ahead.
Well stayed the same, hardly surprising after a meal out on Saturday night. I think I need more motivation this week.
I shall have to closely watch my calories this week, since my exercise buddy, cocker spaniel Henry, is on short walks only, after having a small op to remove a lump from his leg.
Well done to you, for loosing so much, you must be very pleased!
I'm just making breakfast for myself and my husband, so will respond to your post after - I don't want to rush my responses on account of the breakfast...
Well done for maintaining your weight this week, especially having had a meal out on Saturday night. I hope you enjoyed your meal. I know you only recently got back from your holidays too - so that can also be a challenge to get back to a normal routine.
I hope Henry's operation goes well, and that you still enjoy those shorter walks with him, during his rehabilitation. Maybe you could add in some exercise within the home - I'm considering doing a little routine in the kitchen whilst waiting for the kettle to boil - such as 5 jumping jacks; 5 squats; and maybe 2 more sets of 5. If I do that each time I make a drink at home, then I'll burn a few of the calories that are contained in the coffee or teas that I'm consuming! (That's my plan, but not sure if I'll actually do that yet - time will tell...).
Thanks so much for your kind words - I am excited about my loss this week, as I don't usually get anyhere near that - my losses are usually extremely small, and alternate with gains.
Can I get a WOOP WOOP!! Amazing result today Lowcal and very well done. I am so pleased for you. 3.4 lbs is a great number and is bringing you ever so close to your goal weight.
The group as a whole have also done a great job losing all that weight and thank you for sharing this.
I am sure you will have a great week ahead as your results today will spur you on to achieve your next goal of 1 lb for the coming week.
Hope you enjoyed your breakfast? Well done on shedding 3.4 pounds, you continue to lead the way for us Lowcal. Last weeks stats are pretty impressive, thank you for taking the time to collate them for us.
I managed to shed 3.2 pounds last week, I'm very happy with that result as it puts me nicely on track to be my goal weight by my target date of 28th September.
Yes thanks, my breakfast was good - porridge with nuts and seeds, and blueberries and cinnamon and full-fat milk. Cup of tea with semi-skimmed milk. Now having a cup of coffee with semi-skimmed milk. That's been my standard breakfast all this week, apart from Sunday morning when I had a Vegetarian breakfast out in a cafe to start the day (very tasty!).
Thanks very much for your encouraging words. I really appreciate them.
Congratulations to you for losing 3.2 pounds this week, that is really great. It's good to hear you're on track for your target date of 28th September. You're making really great progress.
Not showing major loss but am changing my weigh in day from Friday to Monday....on Friday I had 2.5lb loss so will go with that this week and hopefully show another loss next Monday xxc
Great to see you! It's great that you're joining us for the Monday weigh-in. I know it's quite a potentially 'challenging' day to weigh-in, in terms of just being after the weekend, but I like Mondays for the reason that it helps me not to go overboard on the weekends, as I know I face the weigh-in first thing on Monday. I hope you'll find it works well for you too. It's good to experiment with things to work out what works best for you.
Congratulations on losing 2.5 pounds this week, that is really great!
Good luck with your goal to lose again by next Monday, and hope you have a really good week.
That's great. By the way, your post about swimming has helped to motivate so many people to go swimming this week - a couple of people have mentioned your positive influence within this thread today.
Yes, you inspired Channan to go swimming as a result of reading your post, and I also notice that Cass6 also went swimming as a result of a similar mention of swimming made in a post by Trafford1. It's so great that we are inspired by comparing our experiences on here - I am inspired to pick up my Kettlebells again, thanks to someone else mentioning those today - sorry I've briefly forgotten who mentioned Kettlebells, but it was a great suggestion.
p.s Just remembered it was Mrsg3 who mentioned Kettlebells.
I've only just found this website. I am starting my healthy eating today, I have lost a stone so far on my own but have now hit a wall and struggling to keep it off. This seems a great way to help me stay motivated, I have about another stone to lose so will check in next week when hopefully I've lost a 1lb or two.
Hi Tuppy, I was the same, lost about 3/4 stone on my own for the first month and then needed a bit more oomph so found this forum. It's really helped me to stay motivated. I have a lot to lose - about 6-7stone, but the stories and inspiration I get from everyone is like having your own cheering team.
Thank you, good luck to you too. It definitely does help to read all the inspirational stories on here. I'm actually feeling more motivated than I was so that's a start.
Welcome to the forum, and it's great to hear you're starting your healthy eating today, and a very warm welcome to you! I'm really glad that you have decided to join us for this Monday weigh-in, and I hope we'll see you around in future weigh-ins and around the site. It's a very friendly and supportive community.
Firstly, Congratulations on losing a stone by yourself, that is really good! Have you looked at the NHS 12 week structured plan? You can easily link to it at the top of the page, where it says 'Weight Loss NHS' - and it's a really good plan with lots of information and advice.
Wishing you a great week, and good luck with your goal to lose a pound or two by then.
Thank you, I've just printed off the 12 week plan and have pinned it on my fridge to keep me motivated, thanks for letting me know about that. Its going to be a tough six weeks as kids off school and we have picnics and a holiday in Cornwall (will try and resist their cornish pasty!!) :). Good luck to you too over the next week.
Yes, I think the Summer holidays are definitely challenging - maybe you could still enjoy some Cornish pasty if you cut one up into small chunks and share it, so you have 'tasters' of Cornwall rather than the whole thing? Lovely that you're going to Cornwall for your holiday, and picnics can be really tasty - you can always have some salad items within your picnic like tomatoes, cucumbers, beetroot, amongst the higher calorie items.
I've found that if I have visitors over and offer them some cake, I cut up the cake into very small pieces, and that way people can take a couple of pieces and still not have too many calories - I then freeze any left-overs - amazingly there are left-overs because I think people are too polite to wolf down the whole plate...!
Glad you like the 12 week plan - putting it on your fridge sounds like a great idea.
What a great idea of cutting pasty/cakes up small so I can still feel like I'm having a treat. We are off out for a picnic today and I have packed myself a lovely salad and fruit and have put a football in the car so it will make me get up and move around with kids rather than doing my normal of sitting eating junk and watching kids play. Feeling motivated, have a good day.
Wow, that sounds great. Have a lovely day! The thing is with all your food and drink intake, keeping a track of it on an app like Myfitnesspal can ensure you stay within your personal allowances.
Enjoy playing football with your kids - sounds like you're all going to have a lovely day together.
Hi low cal you have lost an amazing amount of weight well done, this has been my first week so far so good have lost 4lb a long way to go but so many motivating stories on here!
A very warm welcome to you, and thank you for joining us in this Monday weigh-in. Congratulations to you for losing 4 pounds in your first week - that's a really great start!
Yes, there are lots of motivating stories on here, and it really does help to read them and know that it is possible to lose weight in a healthy way. Hopefully you'll be sharing your own motivational story before too long - it's already motivating to hear you've lost 4 pounds in your first week, so you'll be inspiring others to start alongside you.
I hope you have a great week ahead, and look forward to seeing you in future weigh-ins and around the site.
Thanks also for your kind words about my weight-loss.
Well done Lowcal that is fantastic! Pleased to say i have a 3lb loss so made it into 12s! Not been there for 7 years. I will not weigh in next week as on hols. Hoping despite holiday to stay in the 12s?!☺
Congratulations to you for making the very fantastic transition into the 12's, and for achieving a 3 pound loss this week. Both are so great! How exciting that you have got into the 12's for the first time in 7 years. I am absolutely excited for you!!!!! A very inspiring post!
What a lovely way to start your holiday, knowing you are so much slimmer and have achieved such great results. I hope you have a lovely holiday, and we will look forward to catching up with you when you get back. Relax and enjoy!
We all know how challenging holidays can be - but setting yourself a goal to maintain your weight is sensible, and I wish you success.
But most important is that you enjoy your holiday, as you deserve a good break!
Well done Lowcal bet you're pleased! So am I, 4lbs off this week & measured my waist, down 3 cm..
Inspired by Trafford1's post on Saturday I went swimming & did 50 lengths, haven't done that for years. Followed by a 3k (gentle) run. Obviously doing the trick.
I went out twice last week and chose to drive and pick up my friends so I couldn't drink and scupper my weight loss plans - I preferred to spend the calories on food 😋.
I have been hungry a few times this week but have thought it's only passing, have a glass of water a do wait until the next meal or snack. I'm much better if I plan my meals for the day, including snacks and take it into work with me.
Wow, I am thrilled to hear you've lost 4 pounds this week, and also that you've reduced your waist size by 3cm, that's really great!!!!! Congratulations.
Inspiring to read your exercise achievements too - swimming 50 lengths is incredible, and following that with a 3k run sounds like you're in training for a triathlon - you just need the bike ride and you'd be there!
Great tactic to be the designated driver so you could reserve those calories for food rather than alcohol.
I agree with you that pre-planning meals helps a lot, including the snacks.
Hi, I have completed my first week! At the start I weighed 89.6kg and this week I have just weighed in at 87.1kg. I kept to the 1400kcal/day except one day! I made it to the swimming pool twice after reading a post on the forum by yvonnenanny1965 and made an effort to walk more. My goal this week is to get back to the gym!
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks so much for joining us for this Monday weigh-in.
Congratulations on losing 2.5 kilos in your first week - that is such a great start!!!! Also good to hear you kept within your calorie allowance, and that Yvonnenanny1965's post inspired you to go swimming and walk more. I hope you enjoyed that swim and the walking.
Good luck with your goal to get back to the gym. I hope you have another great week ahead, and hope to see you in future weigh-ins, and around and about in the forum.
Lowcal
Many congratulations. That's a great result! Have a good week. Juliet
Hi everyone. Wow there are some impressive losses already this morning. I had a slightly relaxed week (went out for curry with family and had wine) but still lost 1.5lbs as was good on the other days. Resisted wine and takeaway last night (my husbands suggestion) and am so pleased I did this morning. Now weigh 16 stone 3 and 3/4lbs. Is it far fetched to think I might weigh 15 13 and 3/4 by next week ha ha
Great to see you again, and Congratulations for losing 1.5 pounds this week. It's nice that you enjoyed the curry and some wine during the week with your family.
I think you were sensible not to have wine and takeaway last night, as maybe it might have tipped the scales the other way. Sometimes just having a salty meal before a weigh-in can add quite a lot to the scales, as I discovered one weekend after I'd had a Chinese takeaway meal. I put on about 3 pounds overnight, but it soon came off again as the water weight came off again.
I think it's quite difficult to lose 4 pounds in a week, but it is not far-fetched - however I would say that slow and steady weight loss of between 1 and 2 pounds per week is usually what tends to occur the longer we're into a healthy eating plan. I think the reason I lost 3.4 pounds this week is because I'd been on holiday recently, and being back in my usual routine has probably helped me to lose a bit more than I usually would.
Thanks for the reply lowcal. You are so right about slow and steady. I am just impatient to see a 15 at the start of my weight. Still by end of August I should be comfortably heading towards 14 something with a bit of luck
Lost 2lb but disappointed as I was hoping for more following a sneaky mid week weigh in where I seemed to have lost 4lb . Lesson learned - change the settings on my App to weekly not daily weigh ins!!!!!!
I'm following Couch 2 5k and have quite "enjoyed" the jogs!!
I'm also using MyFitnessPal app where I write everything I've eaten/all exercise I've done.
I also did a 9.5 mile round trip up to Cross Fell (North Pennines) with my fella.
Not to worry 2lb is 2lb so I'm focussed for this next week.
Congratulations on completing your first week, and for losing 2 pounds. That is great! I know you had seen a 4 pound loss on your scales mid-week, but weight does tend to fluctuate day to day. I should know, as I do weigh myself daily - but I only ever report the Monday weight. I think it's a personal thing about how often people weigh - I know there are differing viewpoints on it. Go with whatever works best for you.
Great to hear you're enjoying your jogging on the Couch to 5k. Great exercise! Brilliant that you did a 9.5 mile round trip to Cross Fell in the North Penines with your fella.
I also use Myfitnesspal for logging my calories and exercise etc, and I usually print out a graph of my progress on Sundays - showing the overall calories and net calories etc. My average daily total calories for this week were 2,606 and my average daily net calories were 1,760. I am 6 feet 1 inch tall.
Just visualise that 2 pounds in terms of two packs of butter - or a bag of sugar, and think about the fact you've lost that weight from your body - that is a really good amount to lose.
Yet again I have maintained this week, the children's summer holidays have started and so has their C25K program - we're off to do the 3rd run of week 1 in a bit 😉 ... They are loving it, I really hope to pass the 'running bug' on to them.
I am glad that I haven't gained, but I really want to lose this week .... Hopefully I can resist snacking and keep moving 😉 we're off swimming this afternoon, so we'll see!!!
Congratulations to you for maintaining your weight - I know the Summer holidays are a challenging time, and it's good to maintain at such a time. Brilliant that you're doing the C25k with your children - and great that they're loving it! Hopefully you're successfully passing that 'running bug' on to them.
Great that you're off swimming this afternoon - hope you all enjoy that, and good luck with your goal to lose this week.
Morning all and well done Lowcal especially! My goal for last week was to maintain on my gaining weight 11.3 and not put ant more on, pleasantly surprised this morning 11st and 1/4lbhappy to maintain that but secretly would like to lose 1/2 lb to take me back to the 10's, have a good week all
Congratulations on losing 2.75 pounds this week, that is really fantastic!!! You've exceeded your goal, which was to maintain, by losing a really good amount of weight. Hopefully you'll be celebrating getting back into the 10's next week - you can do it!!!!
Many congratulations on the results so far this morning, Low Cal to lose 3.4lb when you have been on the plan for so long is an amazing result, well done you. Also, can I say a big thank you for taking the time and effort to add up and post the results for the whole group which is truly inspiring. I'm sure other fellow posters find the supportive posts on the site as much of a motivation as I have in my first week. My first weigh in result a loss of 2.5 lb which I am very happy with. I didn't achieve any exercise in week 1, best laid plans went to pot but I now have a tidy garage with a cross-trainer in position for use this week. My aims for this week, 1st Pilates class tonight and start on the kettlebell routine tomorrow. I'm also going to start the C25K this week but on the cross-trainer (less impact on my knee than running which I struggle with). My target for next Monday is to post a 1.5 - 2 lb loss, good luck to everyone for a successful week.
Thank you so much for your kind words - I really appreciate them. It did take a while to add up the weights from last week, as I am not great at Maths, but having a calculator definitely helped! Suzybenj will be back from her holidays soon, so she'll be helping with the calculations once she's back. It was her idea to do that, and I think it's an excellent idea. Glad you're finding the posts on the site to be motivating - it is a great community to be part of.
Congratulations to you for losing 2.5 pounds - that's a great result.
Sounds like you're well prepared with your tidy garage and newly positioned cross-trainer - fantastic! Hope you enjoy your 1st Pilates class tonight, and that your kettle bell routine goes well tomorrow. I also enjoy using kettle bells, but I've not picked it up for a few weeks now. You've inspired me to add a kettle bell session into my week now - I hope I can achieve it.
Good luck with doing the C25K, and very sensible to use the cross-trainer for that so you can hopefully protect your knee. Be careful.
Best of luck with your goal for this week, and hope you have a really good week ahead.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal, really pleased to hear you've lost so much this week. You must be very encouraged. Those little changes - extra focus, portion control, extra days exercising - all made a big difference! I've lost 1lb this week, from 11st4 to 11st3. It really feels like I'm consistently losing every week and this is enough for me. I know that if I'd been more disciplined foodwise over the weekend and fitted in an extra day of running I might have seen a 2lb loss instead, but glad that this feels sustainable despite not following everything to the letter. Congrats to everyone on last week's impressive overall loss, this week's looking to be just as impressive too!
Thanks very much. I am definitely happy with my result this week. I do feel encouraged by it.
Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, that is really good. I'm pleased to hear you're enjoying consistent weight losses each week, as that is particularly good progress to have that consistency. Like you say, it is more sustainable.
I think you're right, this week's weight loss results will be similarly impressive - there is definitely a sense of momentum going on.
Today is the first day in about 20 years that I have decided to ditch the diet clubs and forget points and syns and go it alone. I found this site yesterday and have loads of support so far so feeling motivated and 'free'. So here goes with my first weigh in.
Today I weighed in at 16 stone 13.5lbs eeeekkkkk!!
I know we communicated yesterday, but a very warm welcome to you once again, and I am so glad you decided to join us in the Monday weigh-in group. It really is a very supportive group, and I hope you'll feel welcome and supported as part of the group. It's good to hear you've experienced lots of support within the forum - and that you're feeling motivated and 'free'. Those are great feelings to have starting out, and hopefully they'll continue!
You've taken that very brave step of posting your starting weight, and hopefully you'll be getting lighter week by week from now on.
Have you looked that the NHS 12 week structured plan? It does have some good advice and information, and you can follow the plan if you want to, or just take the advice and implement any aspects you want to - I know you'll already have some experience from your previous attendance at the diet clubs you've attended. Hope you cope ok with the switch from tracking 'points' and 'syns' to tracking calories - I think I recommended an app to help you do that yesterday, called Myfitnesspal, but there are others out there, and I remember several people responded to your post with other suggestions as well.
I am sure you will enjoy the support from the group and lowcal. I joined in January weighing 14.1 and now weigh 12.11, I know I wouldn't have achieved this without the group's support.
I had 7 weeks on holiday in Spain and only put 4lbs on, because I had just got into healthier choices and watching portion sizes but not going without, it's all about retraining your eating habit's.Also found the 12 week plan helpful to start me off.
Well, I have proved that I can't trust myself and have put on 3lbs. So back to the plan and exercise more. Hubby making bacon sandwich didn't help either! Must learn to say no.
I'm sure you can trust yourself really - some weeks are more challenging than others. I think it is particularly difficult to say 'no' to certain people in life, and our partners or other close relatives can be the ones that we sometimes give into against our better judgement. But I have found that it gets easier the more you do it, so it's worth being up front with your hubby and telling him that you'd rather not have that bacon sandwich, if that's something you don't want to have on that occasion. Or maybe just talking to him about your goals and discussing ways you can support each other to enable you to achieve them. If there's anything he's doing that you don't feel is supportive, just talk to him about it, and see if you can come to a resolution.
Easier said than done, but good luck! Do whatever you think will help you get back to your plan, and good luck with your plans to do more exercise as well.
You've gained 3 pounds this week, but I am hopeful that once you're back on track, and learn that you can trust yourself (I believe that you can), you'll be enjoying a loss on the scales at next week's weigh-in, all being well.
It's difficult because my husband is a wonderful cook and loves to feed people, he is being supportive, apart from the bacon sarnie! In fact he is very encouraging about my weight loss.
It's down to me to take control, I am finding it hard to say no to goodies at the moment. But I had a better day yesterday and the scales have shown a slight loss already. I even managed to turn down a free buffet! I have started my exercises again and ate sensibly by cooking my own dinner.
Well done on your loss, the group is doing well and I want to be part of the positive side of things.
Well done for turning down that free buffet! Buffets can be notoriously challenging - always good to go with a definite strategic plan if you do decide to attend one, but having decided 'not' to go means you don't even need to worry about it!
Really good that your husband is supportive of your weight loss. Also, I don't think there's anything wrong with your bacon sarnie, it's just that you know if it fitted in with your overall plan or whether it was something you'd rather not have had at the time.
Great that you've started your exercises again, and I hope you enjoyed the meal you cooked too.
You are definitely part of the positive side of things, but there's nothing wrong with talking about those things that are difficult or challenging, as we don't get to learn from those experiences otherwise.
Thank you so much for your support, it is very much appreciated.
You make a good point, it is good to keep a close check on what we eat, as it can definitely help to reduce the weight, or alternatively it can give us indications of where we can make some changes, in the event that we gain weight one particular week.
I'll look out for you on the forum and I hope you have a great week.
I'm so pleased for you this week, you must have really worked at it. I am sure you will soon be in the 12's, it must have really encouraged you.
I was 12.12 last week and am 12.11 today so 1lb loss, I am going to aim for 2lbs this week, I think I would have lost more but had meals out and few glasses of wine, so will try to have a good week as away for a few days the week after.
I am impressed by the group's weight loss last week, here's to another good week this week.
Its been a couple of weeks since I've logged in. I don't know why, I've just been really flagging lately! But I am enjoying this new group weigh thing that's started! Its crazy to see how much we can lose as a group!
I have been the same weight for a couple of weeks now. Had a few birthdays within a few weeks of each other and have just used it as an excuse to over eat.
They are all done and dusted with now and I need to get myself sorted! Having let some weight creep back on I am back up to 12st 12lbs yet again! I want to lose 2st and 12lbs now altogether.
I have a friends wedding on the 25th June next year and I have quite a few dresses that no longer fit me that I would like to have the choice to wear! 46 weeks is plenty of time to get down to my ideal weight so let's see what we can do!
Otherwise, great news on the 3lb loss Lowcal! That's excellent news! So pleased for you! I hope you had a lovely holiday too!
I'm looking forward to this week now with a new positive attitude and plenty of plans for healthy eating and gym time. Fingers crossed for everyone!
Firstly, glad you're back with us at the Monday weigh-in - I missed you last week! Really glad to hear you're looking forward to this week with a new positive attitude and plenty of plans for healthy eating and gym time. That sounds like a great and winning combination!
Thanks also for your very supportive and encouraging words to me, which I much appreciate.
I know you've had a slight gain, but it was good that previous to that gain you had maintained your weight for a couple of weeks - well done for that! Having several Birthday celebrations within close proximity is especially challenging, and you're still within the 12's, despite all those celebrations.
I think it's good to have a goal to work towards next year, and your friend's Wedding on 25th June sounds like the perfect goal - hopefully you'll be able to choose whichever dress you want to wear on that day, and fit into it like a glove. You've got 46 weeks, and that's a great amount of time, and you can achieve a lot in that time.
So keep your positivity and motivation, and it will spur you onwards, and all being well, downwards!
Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week, that is really great!!! I am especially impressed as I know you lost 5 pounds last week, so it is fantastic that you were able to lose even more - I think it's quite unusual to manage to do that.
I hope you enjoy week 3, and that you have a great time swimming.
From what I've observed on here, people seem to re-measure themselves less often than they do their weigh-ins. Personally I measure myself once a month, bizarrely choosing the 10th of each month to do that. Wonder why we choose particular times...!!! I'm surprised I wouldn't have chosen the 1st of each month instead, but maybe the 10th meant something at the time...! The most important thing is to do what feels best for you, and good luck with those re-measurements, when you do take them.
I've maintained at 10st10 this week. Like other folk I've had a few birthday celebrations recently so putting it down to that. Will be keeping a close eye on my intake this week and hope to be able to report a loss next Monday.
Good luck to you Lowcal and to everyone else posting on this thread for a good weight loss week ahead
Congratulations for maintaining your weight this week, especially as you've had a few Birthday celebrations to contend with. More usual to gain following challenges like that, so you must have been disciplined and made some good choices. So well done to you!
Good luck with your goal for this week - and hope you get that loss on the scales you're hoping for next week.
Good morning everyone, some really inspiring losses to cheer up this dreary Monday.
Well done Lowcal, what a fantastic loss. Must be a great feeling to know the 12's are in sight!
I've lost 3/4 of a pound this wk. Not much, but a step in the right direction all the same my weight is now 9st 3.75lbs and trying to get below 9st is always a struggle for me. I'm hoping for a boost this week though as I'm on week 4 of the couch to 5 k and I'm looking to push myself that bit further. As someone who has always loathed running (dramatic, but true) I'm finding the plan highly addictive! Can't wait to get out later today - never thought I'd be saying that!
Yes, there are some really inspiring posts on this thread this morning! Definitely cheering for this dreary Monday. Many thanks for your encouraging words - the 12's have been quite elusive for me - I have some hope that I might achieve that transition, but at the same time I know I need to keep focused, otherwise I will drift back again. I am feeling more determined at the moment that I will achieve it though - so that feels good.
Congratulations on losing 0.75 pound this week. That is a great achievement, and I noticed that you lost 3 pounds last week, so to achieve another loss straight after is really good!
You're getting closer to the 8's. Does that mean you're getting close to your ideal weight now? You sound like a light person (in comparison to me), but I don't know your height. Don't feel you have to respond to that, I was just wondering aloud - good luck with week 4 of the Couch to 5k - glad you're enjoying it! Enjoy your run later today.
Your right, I'm back within a healthy range for my height as I'm 5' 2, but I have a wardrobe filled with clothes that I fit into 5 yrs ago and I'm determined to get back there. I've spent the past 4 yrs pregnant (on and off) as I've had my three AMAZING children and my body has been through a lot! I've pretty much taken it for granted and really not looked after myself as much as I should have. I put on much more weight with my third pregnancy and I had a really high sugar diet and was totally unfit. Losing the weight hasn't been easy and I've worked hard over the past two months. I'm so glad I found this site though as I've got another 10lbs to shift and with you guys, I know I can do this!
Lovely that you've got your 3 amazing children, and I completely understand your wish to be the weight you feel comfortable with. There's quite a range within each BMI band.
You'll hopefully be back in those clothes again and enjoying wearing them.
Hi Everybody, thanks for your very positive welcome Lowcal. I am really pleased to be part of the group. I have 9 stone to loose and presently weigh 18stone 7lbs.
Great! Glad you found us here - once again a Very Warm Welcome - it's great that you're part of our Monday weigh-in.
You've taken the brave step of posting your first weigh-in, and I hope you'll be celebrating a loss on the scales next week. I can recommend the NHS 12 week structured plan as a good source of information and structured advice. You can find it by clicking on the link at the top of this forum, which says 'Weight Loss NHS' - it's a fantastic resource and many people have lost weight using it, as you can see from the various posts across the forum.
I'd like to wish you a great first week, and I hope we'll see you in future Monday weigh-ins, as well as around and about within the NHS Weight Loss community forum.
Despite registering on this site a few weeks ago I haven't yet got going on my weight loss journey. Seeing this weekly weigh-in is just what I needed. Thank you Lowcal!
I am weighing in today at 10st 5lbs and want to lose about a stone. I am only a shortie - so the extra weight makes me feel like a bit of a barrel!
A very warm welcome to you, and it's great that you've joined us today for this Monday weigh-in. Sometimes the timing needs to be 'just right' and it seems like today is the day you're embarking on your weight loss journey - and I wish you every success with it. Weekly weigh-ins can certainly help to keep the goals in mind, and also to work towards achieving them.
You've taken the big step of posting your first weigh-in on the scales, and you have set yourself the goal to lose about a stone.
Have you seen the NHS 12 week structured plan? Click on the icon above labelled 'Weight Loss NHS' and it will take you there, if you want to take a look. It really does have some excellent advice and the 12 week structured plan is really good.
Wishing you a great first week, and look forward to catching up with you at next Monday's weigh-in.
Thanks Lowcal - yes I have downloaded the NHS plan and agree that there is some great advice on it.
Have a good week too
My first week and I lost 2lb 8 oz- can't stop grinning! Don't even feel as though I've done much differently to before but have taken on board all your useful ideas and just mixed things up a bit. Thank you all so much. X
Congratulations for losing 2.8 pounds in your first week, that is fantastic!!!! I'm not surprised you can't stop grinning - that is a really good start. It's also great to hear you don't feel as if you've had to do anything vastly different to before, but you've made use of useful strategies and mixed things up to suit your individual requirements.
This is such a great thread and I love the fact you worked out the total loss for everyone last week - pretty inspiring bunch!
I don't usually join in as my weigh-in day is Friday and I inevitably put on a bit over the weekend. But as I recorded last Monday's weigh-in I thought I'd join in this week.
So compared to last Monday I have lost 1.5lb (it was 2lb on Friday but that will be the pasty )
I am pretty much still hitting my average of 2lb a week so I am happy with my results to date.
I am away in London next week so I will weigh this Friday and then not weigh (properly) for a fortnight - to give me time to shift the holiday lbs
I have planned a for bit for next week food wise to keep me in check but I will be having the odd indulgence.
Well done on your excellent loss this week and good luck to everyone else.
Thanks so much for your very positive and encouraging comments about this thread - the group is certainly extremely inspiring, and I am very happy that you've decided to join us on Mondays, as well as having your usual Friday weigh-in (which I will continue to look out for as well).
Congratulations on losing 1.5 pounds this week - and brilliant to hear you're hitting your average of 2 pounds a week - those are excellent results. Hope you enjoyed that pasty by the way!
Hope you enjoy your time in London, and good luck in shifting any holiday pounds - but hopefully there won't be many of those, especially as you're pre-planning - that always helps. Enjoy those indulgences too.
I'll look out for your weigh-in on Friday. Wishing you a great result.
Catch up with you when you get back from your travels. Have a wonderful time.
My weigh in, I am 17 stone 3lbs. I have lost the 4lbs I put back on a few weeks back. So I am back at 1 stone lost. That works out as 2lbs lost last week and the week before. Onwards...
Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week, and losing the 4 pounds you'd put back on a few weeks back, that's really great! Achieving 1 stone in total is a fantastic achievement, really good!
As you say, "Onwards..." - that statement sounds very positive and focused. Wishing you a good week ahead.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal,
What a fantastic result, you must be feeling so happy.
I weighed myself for the first time today, and I'm starting out at 17st 12lbs. I've just started the NHS 12 week plan. I'm really impressed with how well everybody here is doing!
A very warm welcome to you - and thanks for joining us to weigh-in for your first weigh-in - it's great to hear you've just started the NHS 12 week plan, and I really hope you'll enjoy it and find it helpful for your own personal weight loss journey.
You've taken that first brave step, and shared your starting weight - and hopefully you'll be getting lighter as the weeks go by, to achieve your goals.
Yes, I'm also extremely impressed by everyone's achievements, it's really great!
Wishing you a great first week, and hope to see you at next Monday's weigh-in.
Congratulations to everyone that lost or maintained weight this week!
Okay, so a couple of weeks a go I posted that I was going to start again. Well...I didn't. But I am so determined now!
I'm starting today so wanted to post my current weight now...10 stone 4.2 lbs. I'm 5 ft 1.5 inches which makes me overweight
I'm aiming for 8 1/2 stone...may be less but want to see what I look like at that weight. I think that weight was when I was at my happiest! I want to do it properly and change my mindset so my aim is to lose 1-2 lbs a week. Hopefully I will be close to me goal weight in 3 months Feeling VERY hopefully!
I'm so glad you're joined us today for this Monday weigh-in, and you're sounding very determined, which is an excellent frame of mind to have! You've shared your starting weight, which is a brave first step, and you have a clear ultimate goal that you want to acheive. You've set yourself a very sensible target to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week, really healthy rate of weight-loss.
Are you doing the NHS 12 week plan? If you haven't seen it, and would like to take a look, just click on the link at the top of the site, where it says 'Weight Loss NHS' and you can get to it via that link.
Wishing you a great first week, and I hope to catch up with you at next Monday's weigh-in.

Thank you Lowcal
I am definitely going to use the 12 week plan - I really like that its little changes each week. Way more manageable and more likely to stay as permanent changes. I have dabbled with myfitnesspal so will continue to use this.
Week 10 and another 2lbs off this week - 18 lbs in all.
This morning I was getting ready for work and put on one of my 'old faithful' tops. I caught sight of myself in the mirror when I was ready to leave and realised that I couldn't possibly go out like that. My top was far too big for me and looked ridiculous so I had to go back and get changed. I was so pleased!
It's great that you've lost 18 pounds in total since you started. Hope you're enjoying the start of week 10. Losing 2 pounds this week is really great. Congratulations
Wow, having to change your top because it was too big - what a great thing to happen!!! Shows how much your body shape has changed.
Hi Lowcal and all. Lowcal well done on your loss - you're on fire!! There are some good losses reported again this week I've only had a glance through as am full of cold, coughing like I smoke 40 a day and have my period so generally feeling sorry for myself... but i'll aim to cheer up and have a proper trawl through tomorrow.
I am 17st 6lbs today which is not good I'm sure part of it is my period but I'm 2lb up from last week and not as such making great progress towards my hot tub goal...
I have decided to try and avoid caffeine so am piloting herbal teas this week to see if they make any difference.. watch this space!
Great to see you! Sorry to hear you're full of cold, and facing a bad cough plus your time of the month on top of that - they do say things come in 3's sometimes!!! Lots to read for you tomorrow, so many people have contributed to today's thread, it's very encouraging!
It's understandable that you've gained some weight this week - with everything you're facing, but hopefully it won't deter your progress towards your hot tub goal - you'll be able to get back to it when you're feeling better. Just look after yourself and make sure you keep hydrated. Would be interested to hear how you get on piloting those herbal teas, and which ones you particularly enjoy. Personally, I like Lemon & Ginger and also Peppermint.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, and a good week ahead.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal fab weight loss. Well done you! I have stayed the same weight which has been my goal at the moment. I am still getting used to the lowfodmap diet. It is working well and I feel so much better.
With this and lots going on over the summer with family my head space Isn't there for weight loss. My aim is to maintain for a while and sometime in the autumn to try for more weight loss.
I will try and check in on Mondays as this should help me be careful what I eat and to keep a check on my weight.
Thank you! I hope you've been doing ok with adjusting to the low Fodmap diet - glad you're feeling so much better as a result, that's good to hear.
Well done for maintaining your weight this week. You're certainly not alone in finding the Summer holidays challenging, and so your goal to maintain for a while sounds very sensible to me!
Glad you'll still join us on Mondays when you can, because I do think the group is helpful for those people trying to maintain as well as those who want to lose weight. I always think of myself as someone who is trying to 'maintain' the weight I've already lost, and I am still trying to lose the final few pounds. But maintaining is a challenge in itself, and needs 'maintaining' if you know what I mean...
I would love to join your weigh-in group every Monday - I have just started my diet on Monday 27 July and I weigh 14stones!! - hoping to try and lose at least 5 stone - taking it slowly and following the info on here, any tips? : - )
That's great! We'd love it if you'd join us for the Monday weigh-in group - thanks for joining us today to introduce yourself. You're starting weight of 14 stones means that hopefully you'll be making the transition into the 13's next week, all being well...!!!
Regarding tips, I think it's great that you're following the information on here - I assume you're talking about the NHS 12 week structured plan? It is really good. Personally, I think that pre-planning meals and snacks can make a lot of difference, in terms of keeping within your personal allowances, and prevents those distractions that can easily pop up. Practising saying 'no' to people who try to persuade you to eat things that you basically don't want to eat, and also I find that regular exercise (making sure it's something you actually 'enjoy') is really beneficial.
I hope you have a great first week, and we'll look forward to seeing you at next Monday's weigh-in.
Hey- found a very slow wifi to check in. Lc you have had a mega week!! Not only in pounds lost - congrats. And 127 replies - that would have kept you busy. Despite being v cAreful with bread and cheese- I gained 2 holiday pounds-too much paella and sangria. So as penance -I too,k myself off to the Olympic size pool and did 500 meters in blazing sunshine. As a result clipped one of those pounds off today- hurrah.
So I will carry on being careful - as had a bit of an epiphany this week- which I will share Monday.
Great news on the count of the week LC.
Back to normal next week- looking fwd to those back to work- phrases ' it's great to be back'hah!
Just to let you know that both your posts came in fine, the longer one you wrote first, and now this shorter one. I'll include your results - I've already done the 'add ups' and it is a phenomenal result overall - but I'll keep it to myself until next Monday's weigh-in, and then surprise everyone with their amazing stats summaries.
I think your idea to have the stats has really stimulated a lot of extra interest in our group, and I feel it's also helping to motivate the existing contributors too - so I think it's an excellent idea that you had, and I'm so glad we're able to put it into fruition.
Glad to hear you're enjoying your holiday, and as you've already clipped one of those 2 pounds gained off with that lovely long swim, I will only add 1 pound to the weight loss stat to reflect that you only effectively gained 1 pound over your holiday period. That is a really great result, as it's so easy to gain lots more weight during holidays. You've done really well.
Hope it's not too much of a shock to you to get back to your usual routine, but 'welcome back' in advance of your return.
