Last night I watched the usual show on television and they featured a disabled helicopter pilot. Long story short he and his passengers survived a crash but he ended up a paraplegic. Arms, but non working legs. He was determined to walk again and he was doing a huge amount of physical therapy to rebuild the nerve connections in his spinal cord to move again. He was not moving like a ballerina or running like Usain Bolt, but he was standing up okay and hobbling along on an assistive path. A path with the hand rails on either side, no idea what it is called. The point being this young man once walked and was training his body to do so again. Bit by bit making new connections. Very slowly very painfully but he was trying.
A little like “YOU” and me. Things have broken in our bodies and if we want them back we have to make an effort. Work at it and keep working at it to get back what we once had and lost.
I once could run, not real fast but I could do it. I do not practice and keep that skill alive and guess what I cannot run anymore. Use it or lose it. I lost it. I can still ride a bicycle just a little unsteady at first. I much prefer my racing tricycle no balance issue on that, just a little low to the ground and drivers around here are really rude. No matter how many lights and bright flags I may have, nevertheless I practice and I ride. What “YOU” have lost or allowed to go dormant, practice and “YOU” may find that it can come back. Relapsing Remitting ms (RRms) is a complicated illness, it takes work and determination to get through it. We are not going to die tomorrow. We have time to train ourselves and get through it. With our shoulders back head held high and a smile on our faces. Have “YOU” ever seen the disabled sportsman in the paralympics? Why do “YOU” not aim for that. Fail, but aim for the sky who knows how high “YOU” may end up going. This does not have to just exercise it can be anything. Put your mind to it and start working towards it, whATEVER IT MAY BE TO “YOU”
