Do "YOU" see all the possibilities around "YOU? Seriously do "YOU"?
Long long ago, Okay twenty years ago, when I first started my Relapsing Remitting ms(RRms) journey. I had one Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT) available for me to take. Interferon Beta 1b Betaseron or Betaferon depending on where"YOU" were in the world. Same stuff different names, marketing issues I guess. The next year I believe Avonex then Copaxone came along. Rebif was next, it meant fewer needles so of course, I went for it as soon as it came on the market. An interesting point here, Beta was interferon 1b Rebif was 1a, my body does not like 1a so I got one month worth of painful injections in my increasingly bony buttocks, my poor mother having to do that to me. Tecfidera came along next and being a tablet, I was so there and have been for the last many years. I have the date somewhere but I do not care to look it up, a silly coping mechanism. I have another one, I am deliberately vague on when I was diagnosed (Dx'd) Was it the first doctor who's sister has ms who said I have ms go to a neurologist(neuro). I told him I have ms, so ms testing was done, very quickly I was Dx'd or the second neuro who confirmed it and started me on beta?
That was then; this is now. A newly diagnosed person(Newby) can start on an alphabet soup list of DMTs all designed to slow down the progression of ms. Not a thing cures us, rest assured on that bit of sad news, but there is a lot of DMTs out there to make our ms easier and progression slower.
Beyond DMT there are other things that "YOU" can & should do in combination. Is your diet good and healthy? Creme filled donuts are tasty but not a healthy diet. This illness will not kill you but a heart attack or stroke might. Stay healthy eat well. There is a msgym. Probably more than one I just know of one. There is something called the internet. It is a huge source of information and ideas that "YOU" can use and put into your lifestyle. Admittedly there is some true rubbish in it so please use your better judgement, and be careful. Go to websites run by large hospitals and ms clinics. Mayo Clinic, Cleveland ms clinic come to mind. The super-secret and expensive ms cure clinic in Honduras may not be quite so useful no matter how many people say they were cured and developed a figure to die for and huge biceps.
There are lots of possibilities available today. Do yourself a favour and take advantage of them. I used to see smiling women in wheelchairs on ms magazine covers; Today I see more people standing in a park, no wheelchairs to be seen. The prognosis and how our disease is looked at in twenty years has changed a lot. Who knows where it may be in twenty years time.
Just as a wild and crazy thought, why don't "YOU" prepare yourself in any way that "YOU" can for that date? Old people like "ME" may not be eligible for the latest greatest miracles, but "YOU" my friend may very well be. Just imagine that and work towards that goal there are possibilities everywhere when "YOU" really look for them.
