Hello, I was wondering if anyone with ocd has tried hypnotherapy and if it’s helped them at all.
I have severe contamination ocd and I’ve tried all kinds of therapy, especially cbt. Nothing has worked so far. If it’s worked for anyone could you please tell me a little bit about how it works?
Thank you :))

Hello! OCD therapist here who is also trained in hypnotherapy. Currently there is no evidence backing hypnotherapy up for OCD; it can be somewhat effective for BFRBs however the research is still inconclusive for that one. I have done hypnotherapy on individuals with OCD before and it assists barriers within their treatment (trauma, GAD) however it does not seem to affect the OCD directly.
Besides ERP, there is ICBT- you might look into that! On the Inference CBT website, trained ICBT clinicians are listed.
Hi, I haven’t but I want to try it for my Trich. I had my first hypnotherapy session last week for complex PTSD and we did something called emotion code and then we meditated or I was hypnotized your whatever you wanna call it but she helped me create a safe space in my head and it’s crazy how I can recall every single detail and I can take myself there on command. I haven’t had a flashback or even cried since then. I emailed her to see if we could focus going forward on just Trich because I’m without an OCD specialist at the moment and she said we have to work through the trauma first. Actually, I did cry this week but it was because my OCD specialist won’t see me anymore. It’s a long story, but boy did that hurt. I felt abandoned by my own therapist.
