Hope!!

Hi everyone!! I want to give you all some good news- I’m better🎉🎉 and if I can get better so can YOU!! I know what your ocd is telling you- that your ocd is the WORST kind and that you’ll ALWAYS feel this way (mine tells me that too😊). I’m 57 year old and have had ocd most of my life. I have harm and relationship ocd and have had intense anxiety and depression. I’m a Christian and ocd has attacked that too. I take a low dose SSRI (I’m not going to tell you which one because your ocd wants reassurance). I exercise and try to eat well. But, the main thing that has helped is seeing an ocd trained therapist that does erp. It’s not easy but it’s worth it!! I know I will always have this disorder, and there will be relapses but I now know what I have and have the tools to cope!! This can be true for you too!!! I feel happier than I ever have- I’m learning to accept uncertainty and to “go with the flow” more. One thing I’ve always struggled with is people liking me and getting things “just right”. I’m learning to accept the fact that I won’t really ever know- there is such freedom in this!! Please know this can be true for you too🎉🎉🎉👍👍💝

Hi Wheeloffortune - I am really happy you have gotten so much better. We have a lot in common. OCD, low-dose SSRI, Christian, and I am right around your age.

Thanks Sunn-E that’s nice to know!! 😊 how has your ocd affected your faith??

in reply toWheeloffortune

Hi Wheeloffortune - I'm not sure how to answer that because I was abused as a child, so I believe that hurt my faith more than anything, including my OCD. I also believe that the abuse I endured made my OCD a lot worse than it would have been otherwise.

SunnE I’m so sorry for your abuse. I can understand how that made your ocd worse and affected your faith. I truly believe ocd is worse or starts with trauma. Hugs

Thank you for the ray of hope! It's so inspiring. 😁

I as well am trying to do the same thing. Other days are more difficult than others, but if you can do it and have gone through it for so long. I believe I can too.

Thank you for your post.

Yes you can!! There is nothing special or unique about my ocd so I know you can get better too💝

Wow... great news,,,good for you, I have tried multiple ssris and nothing has worked. I am also looking for an ocd trained therapist. Can you share which ssri you are taking please as I know that some are better than others at treating Ocd. Thanks,

I was on Paxil for years (it really helped) and am now on lexapro. BUT, I never dealt with the intrusive thoughts and anxiety. Also, I have done lots of avoidance. It wasn’t until I did a med change when my ocd/anxiety/depression came back that I found an ocd trained therapist. That has been a game changer for me even more than the meds. I so wish I had done this years ago, but I don’t think they had the knowledge about ERP that they do now. So, I really encourage you to find an ocd trained therapist. Go to international ocd foundation website to help you find one!! Blessings💖💖

Hi Sunn-E, it’s so good to hear from you! I haven’t been as active on here lately as I continue along with my recovery but I still try to check in from time to time and I always have my notifications on so any time you need or want to talk feel free to message me! You were one of the first people on this forum to offer their support, and for that I’ll be forever grateful. I’m thinking of posting an update on what’s been going on with my treatment/recovery lately. Hoping to get to it tomorrow. I hope you’re doing well!
