just for support

I had postpartum depression that I honestly tried to brush off an entire year and a half. My OCD and anxiety got worse and I finally went to my psychiatrist. Apparently escitalopram (Lexapro) stopped working for me so she put me on SNRI - velanxine 75 mg. Is anyone familiar with this drug? It worked wonderful for me for two weeks but suddenly the intrusive thoughts started coming back together with the anxiety. I know OCD requires higher doses on antidepressants so I would love to find out what dosage of meds you are taking? My doctor increased my dosage to 150mg but I’m so worried that this medication will stop working for me at some point and my OCD will come back.

Are you talking about Effexor?

Yes. Exactly

I am on 150mg. I've been on that dose for so many years, I don't even remember when I started it. I didn't think it was working too well, so my Dr put me on Luvox recently. It's not doing too much either. I had started Effexor at 75mg, but then the 150. But like I said, it's not working too well even with the Luvox. I still have the OCD pretty bad. Some people here have said Luvox works really well but that you do best on a higher dose. I am on 100mg/AM and 75mg/bed.

Thank you for sharing the information with me. Have you ever been on Lexapro? I used to be but I guess I was on low dose which worked for some time but then it stopped

I think I was but it was such a long time ago that I also don't remember that. I've been on so many meds throughout the years, probably all of them. The meds for me only lasted a short time, too, and all the issues came back. I had a time when I wasn't as affected by OCD, etc., but it was brief. I've always (except for that time) had OCD usually pretty bad. It is a stubborn illness and so hard to treat (for me). Right now it is really bad, and like I mentioned before, the current new meds I'm on for it (Luvox), isn't helping much. However, at night when I take the Effexor and the Luvox together, it seems to be better but then the morning comes and I'm bad again throughout the day. So, maybe if you tried Luvox and Effexor together, it might have a positive affect. Idk, just a thought.

I'm sorry you're having such a bad time with this; I sympathize with you.

I’m on 150 mg of setraline

Does it work for you

Yes it does. But CBT and ERP are needed as well

Maybe that’s my problem- relying mainly on meds

Do you have an OCD therapist? That’s what you need. Meds help you manage the symptoms. But learning cognitive behavioral therapy and using ERP helps you learn how to break the way you have responded. Good luck!

Thank you.

I have a psychiatrist only.

Yes it’s good to get a therapist who specializes in OCD along with the psychiatrist
