Most compulsions that are done are because of a "just in case" scenario. You may not be 100% sure that the threat will happen for sure, but "just in case" you protect as to not take the risk. Let's learn what to do INSTEAD of the compulsion and avoid the "just incases".

Other than the usual "wash hands, just in case" I also, change my clothes, just in case they brushed against something dirty/germy and got contaminated.
I have soooooooooo much laundry!
Sometimes I can get unstuck from a "just in case" trigger by telling myself, "Well, [the feared event] may happen, but it won't be because of this."
So I might imagine everyone in my family getting some horrible disease, and then wondering if I would look back and say "It must have been the time I cooked supper after touching the basement door knob!" Often it sounds ridiculous enough to snap me out of it and move on, without trying to provide 100% assurance that the feared event could never happen.
