Is anyone else taking Clomipramine (Anafranil) to treat their OCD? Is it supposed to reduce obsessional thoughts? I know it is an older tricyclic antidepressant but what is it supposed to do for OCD? Is it better than Prozac?

Hello there. Anafranil was the first medication prescribed for me way back in the 1980's. It worked very, very well at numbing those intrusive , obsessive thoughts. I was only on it for six months and then came off of it. It is a tricyclic antidepressant so there are generally more side effects than SSRI's, but not everyone is sensitive to them. Like all of these medications ... you just have to try them. Good luck in your journey. I know it can be difficult but with time you can get that dog back on a leash!! Cheers!!

I take it! I use clomipramine since 2015. It works very well... I take two 75mg pills per day! One around 12:00 and one before go to bed... Therefore, I take epival (valproic acid) one hour before take clomipramine pill in the night (Justo one per day). I hope you get well with your treatment!!!
