I am sorry to hear that you are diagnosed with skin picking disorder.
If it is happening with OCD symptoms, of urges, repetition, connected with anxiety, it seems that it could be related to OCD, as a compulsion.
It must be very difficult.
I hope you recover from all these ailments, and start feeling better.
I wanted to share an article about skin picking.
It is called: How Pathologic Skin Picking Is Related to OCD
verywellmind.com/ocd-and-sk...
it is not related to my ocd , since it occurs when I feel a lot of pressure . For example , when I had university exams ....
Thank you for your help!!
What qualified you as a skin picker? When I'm anxious I look for any little blemish on my face to pick. At night I pick my inner thighs and buttocks. I pick sores and scabs too.
Sorry for the misunderstanding about the skin disorder being connected to OCD,
when it is not connected.
I understand now that skin picking is associated with stress.
When you go through periods of high levels of stress, it results in skin picking.
It must be painful.
Stress triggers a lot of physical problems in our body.
Take Care.
I can only speak to my personal experience, but my daughter’s skin picking and hair pulling stopped once her OCD was more under control. She was doing both before the OCD onset and both were at their worst when her OCD was severe.
Have had the condition since childhood a symptom of the recently diagnosed Aspergers/OCD. Has improved w/ age, but continues to be a persistent compulsion.
I don’t know the exact info, but it seems like skin picking commonly co-occurs with OCD. I have had it too, but it did improve a lot when my OCD and general stress improved. One tip I got was to put Vaseline or something like that over any scabs I had because it changed the texture and made it less “satisfying” to pick. However I didn’t try this out because mine is mostly on my scalp so my hair got in the way! Good luck
