Change Meds???

I was wondering if anyone out there has experience changing from one med to another and how bad the lapse of medication is. I am on Abilify 2mg and Zoloft 200mg and am having a tough time right now. I feel like I had been doing really well and i have come so far since my total breakdown but i am not where I was before when I was on Celexa. I am just really nervous of losing progress anymore and changing meds that are working. I don't know if this is just as good as I'm going to be now or if I'm missing out on getting my old self back. However, Celexa did come with weight gain and lethargy. Different then the insomnia and severe constipation from current meds. Sorry for TMI.

Hi Orchid, this is a very important topic for me as well. I've been on fluvoxamina 100gr for 7 years for Health anxiety and OCD and although I have tried to get by without meds I've come to terms that ERP is not enough for me. I am through a very difficult time as well and this meds are not working any more. But I am terrified about the gap between meds and that the new one doesn't work/side effects. Anyone can share experiences? Thank you guys. You're the best!

Hi! I’ve had ocd for most of my life- I’m 57. It has ebbed and flowed. I went on Paxil 20 yrs ago and it was life changing. I suffer with harm ocd and ROCD. Also anxiety and depression. I never got good help for my ocd. Didn’t know it was out there. So, this last year I tried to go off Paxil and did ok and then totally tanked. All the symptoms came roaring back and scared the hell out of me. I was afraid to tell anyone. I went back on lexapro and it took about a month to feel better. BUT the hug really blessing in all of this is that I found an ocd trained specialist who does erp. This has changed my life. I never really dealt with the ocd/ I did a lot of avoiding and distracting and ruminating. I will be on meds forever, but I will also seek help too. Meeting others with disorder also has been so healing!! I’m going to the ocd conference- can’t wait to learn even more. There is hope🙏🙏💖💖

Your testimony has been the light of my day. I felt you were talking about my own experience. After more than 20 years taking Paxil and feeling fine, I thought a gradual reduction of my 20 mg dose will lead me to get rid of Paxil. WRONG decission! After two or 3 weeks All the symptoms returned with ....after 20 years of minimun discomforts with my OCD. Patience and good medical guidance can not be underestimated. I’ m feeling better cause I’m back on Paxil (slightly higher dose) and I looked for a trained therapist.

Hi orchidkoi15

I've heard of people sailing through a change of meds with no problems at all, I think everyone is biologically different, so what works for one person might not work for another, im actually 4 weeks into a dose increase from 100mg of sertraline to 200mg and am finding it extremely difficult, but have been assured by my dr that it can take 6 wks to know whether the medication or dosage is right for you, I hope this helps you x good luck with your meds x
