ET Jak2 on Hydrea 500mg and aspirin. I am developing red areas around my fingernails and pain in some knuckles. Any advice?

Hi. I am also on hydrea and asprin. I got really red marks and itching and I had to take an antihistamine. The hospital recommended piriton . I get a lot of bone pain and I have noticed it a lot more lately. I get a lot in feet , hands , feet and hips. I hope this helps :)

I was on HU for about five years and had to quit because of serious skin reactions (fingers, nails, backs of hands). This is a well known side effect.

Also, my hemoglobin is low so maybe it has something to do with circulation. I will talk to doctor in my next appointment. I am just 9 weeks in the treatment and not sure that hydroxyurea is right medication since my platelets are around 500 but becoming anemic. Not sure how it works yet.

My MPN journey is approaching its 10th anniversary; I was diagnosed with PV back in 2015, treated first with phlebotomy alone, then with HU, and finally with Jakafi since August 2022. My blood numbers have been stable since I started Jakafi. I should probably also mention that I am a few weeks away from my 81st birthday.

This sounds like a possible HU side effect. Best to let your MPN care team know and have your uric acid levels checked as HU can cause renal impairment which can affect joints.

I experienced something similar..what worked for ME was a high quality live pre and pro biotic...taking Hu is soo hard on your stomach and body in general.. I doubled up and its been a game changer..no redness itchiness or burning sensation in my feet and fingers since starting Hu in January..please consult before trying.!
