It’s all going ahead! I had my Hickman line inserted today and will be starting conditioning tomorrow with a dose of Melphalan. Feeling a mix of emotions, but mostly grateful to be moving forward.
Thank you all so much for your kind and supportive posts – they really do mean a lot.
Just to update on the donor issue: while there was some concern due to inactive TB, my specialist has reassured me that the risk of contracting TB from a donor with inactive TB is very low – less than 1%. That’s helped put my mind at ease a bit.
I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated as things progress. Hoping the Melphalan isn’t too rough on me, but we’ll see how it goes.
Thanks again for all the support – it really helps.

Hi,Hatchie. Wishing you all the best on your SCT journey. I am starting mine on May 6 in Boston. My friend had his about a month ago. A few things he told me is do not hesitate to ask the nurses if you don’t feel well. He experienced nausea and headaches from the chemo but they provided medicines for both. They also gave him Ativan to help him with anxiety. Please keep us updated on your progress.
Thanks for the tips. Good luck with yours — the next few weeks will fly by! I was just running on adrenaline, which was exhausting, so in some ways it’s a relief to finally be here.
On the TB, in the unlikely case it happens, TB is considered routinely treatable as discussed here. I'm paying attention since I just got an "indeterminate" TB test. Unlikely I actually have it, as my IFN gamma, measured by this test, and IFN Alpha (the one MPNs take) is likely messed up from Sjogren's.
So pleased you’ve finally been able to move forward. You are in good hands. Just try to remember that this time is short in the overall scheme of things. Keep positive and before you know it, you’ll be back home in your shed, tinkering with the bike again!
May Jesus our Lord be with you through this situation and may He provide all medical professionals with His Holy powers and knowledge, during this process. In His precious name I pray. Amen 🙏
It sounds like you have made a good decision to proceed. Best of luck to you as you move forward on this journey. I am sure that the next several weeks will be difficult, but wishing you long term success. You will be in my prayers in the weeks to come.
Hatchie, wishing you all the best on this journey. You have a whole lot of people here sending you good wishes, prayers and positive thoughts as you go through this. You can do it!! Sending hugs from NYC.
