Hi, I am recently diagnosed with ET and started yesterday on Hydroxycarbamide 500mg Monday to Friday . I understand that I will be monitored closely to achieve the best balance of drugs and optimum platelet count which will take a few months.
However, I am used to travelling, My partner and I have holiday home in Northern Cyprus which I spend up to 3 months 1-2 times a year. We normally get annual travel insurance up to a 90 day period. However, with this diagnosis, I am very concerned that I will not be able to get holiday insurance or it will be cost prohibitive.
Does anyone have an advice on travel insurance companies who will be able to cover me?
thank you in advance.

There's some info. on the main MPN Voice website that may be useful (follow the link below and then the last link on that page lists some insurers people have used before).
I have my holiday insurance through my nationwide account which I pay a monthly fee for, when I informed them of my ET Jak 2 pos. Condition and that I was on Hydroxy there was no extra supplement to be paid so hopefully whichever company you use will be the same. 🤞🏻
I had similar concerns when I was diagnosed six months ago but like others, didn’t have a problem. When I declared ET I was questioned about clotting, which isn’t an issue for me, and everything went through as usual. I’m in the UK with Staysure..
You may find that trying to sort out your travel insurance online doesn't work now you have MPN and are taking HU. However, telephoning the company and running through your situation verbally will probably get you the insurance you need. The list on the MPN Vice website is the place to start. Don't be disheartened if the first company you try can't give you cover. Persevere. My own quote was eye-watering, but worth it for the freedom to be able to travel to see family.
Hi SW, my hubby was diagnosed with PV in Sept & now on Hydroxycarbamide 500mg daily 7days. It took a few visits to get his dose right, & now seeing his great haematologist in 3mths. He's tolerating it really well 🙏. He's also on meds for heart attack 24 yrs ago (no surgery). At the time he was diagnosed with PV, kidney scan was also done, saw there was a cyst (benign) on his kidney, thankfully just had repeat scan,no change. We renewed our travel insurance for Europe yesterday, annual multi trip (45 day trips as we're in our early 70's) with Holidaysafe (we always use them) , just over £400 for both of us👍! Let us know how you go on. Good Luck
I travelled from Australia to the UK last June for a month, I have ET and was taking 1500-2000 mg of Hydrea per day and no problems with travel insurance. No extra cost, just declare it as a pre-existing medical condition.
