high count?

hello people

I had my blood test yesterday and the count was at 600 my endo said that its still to high and raised my hydrea from 2 a day to 4 he wants my count down to 400 is 600 to high

Platelet Count for an adult should be between 140 - 400.. At my worst, I hit 1143, not good.. Good luck..

I was 1360 and my iron was low no wonder me headache was horrid and I kept passing out

Hi I would say it is. It also depends on age and medical history. It seems a bit drastic to double the dose in one go though.

Hope you tolerate it well and that the dose will soon be cut.

If you only 58 I would definitely ask haemotogist about possibly taking less...

Wow that seems a bit much to me. My platelets were at 1.7 million. I now take 2/3 every other day. My counts are holding at 900 and my doctors seem to be ok with that. I have pv jak2pos. Why do doctors have so many different opinions?

I don't know what an endo is..... However, have you been seen by an MPN specialist? If not, it might be helpful to do this if possible.

As you may know, your platelet count is affected by factors such as infection. My count has been increasing by something like 50+ every 3 months for the last year apart from a sudden drop mid- year to a very acceptable 350, It is now about 520 but my haem does not want to increase the dose of HU because she feels the increase may be the result of chest infection and colds which have dogged me throughout the last year. Instead she is monitoring me every 2, not 3 months.

Am not sure if this is of any use to you but thought you might to know of another approach to dealing with a high count. If, of course, there's no other underlying condition which might be pushing the count up, an increase in HU seems logical although doubling the dose seems rather scarey. Sallie

Mine got up to 600 so I am taking 2 mond 2 Wed 2 Friday and 1 in between those days and is controlled quite well.

Yes for sure I don’t chance anything with this illness. It’s horrid the though of it messing my blood system and platelets. It gives me the creeps so does chemo I feel like this Government should gives those who have had this illness an early full pension.
