Hardly dare leave the house. No social life whatsoever. Feeling lonely and isolated. Several serious physical health problems as well as mental health problems. Am I alone?

When you remain indoors on your own do you have hobbies or other activities that you can turn to?

Yes,I have many interests and hobbies,I am rarely bored,I work quite hard to distract and entertain myself and have things I'm looking forward to. This and my anti depressants are essential.I like electronics so recently I have been finding out about radio and purchased a radio collection which I am working through for shortwave.

What about you?

Have you considered taking a course on Radio

We passed a Marine Radio vhf Course, it was an interesting interlude and now with handling Couses I can sale power boats.

Sorry to mention it , just an idea You get certificates and liscence etc when you pass. Also both courses cover an additional section on maintaining gear

Sounds fantastic, how interesting!I'm mainly into short wave at the moment but your suggestioin is terrific. Bit difficult as I'm agoraphobic and don't leave my house!

Sorry regard your fears, in the UK you can take Short Wave Citizens Radio,, At this time Marine Radio is on VHF frequencies, you also learn Morse Code and the Phonetic Alphabet and how to follow marine Radio Law, so I do not think VHF will be the correct system. Is Citizen Band still been used ? When I was at College I took my Marine Radio, PMG grades and I dropped out and concentrated on Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, for radio that is to a higher level.we had to learn Q Codes as well. That was in the late sixties/seventies

You are not alone. I have been afraid to leave the house for a few years now. I got diagnosed with CFS and that really turned my struggles with anxiety and depression on its head. I’ve lost touch with the few friend I had as I would be uncontactable for days and they got fed up not knowing when I’d get back in touch with them. I’d have days where it was difficult for me to leave my bed never mind leave the house.

However, I seem to be getting better now. Early days yet but I have managed to get up and do a little housework every day for the past 10 days.

Using the advise I gave to someone a while ago about getting out of the house and I am taking a few steps outside everyday. I had no choice but go outside yesterday in the snow as I needed to prop up my garden fence as it was going to blow over and I can’t afford to replace it. Luckily I had a suitable piece of wood in a cupboard in the house so I managed to wedge it between the fence and the ground.

At my worst I was too tired to get up, very forgetful and unable to concentrate. I’d get frustrated, annoyed and emotional about it all. I have just kept going and on the days I felt like I could do something I’d work on staying calm and achieving just on thing that day.

Now at the stage I am able to walk in my back garden, even if it is just to the bin and back. Starting to do little bits of housework and I have even started one of the craft kits I got for Christmas. My family are quite encouraging with getting me craft kits and also colouring books to try and spark my interests again,

Fulbourn do you have any hobbies or pets?

You are making positive moves. It is not at all easy. It can even fill one with fear and a faster heart rate. I make similar attempts and it takes my mind off other things for a short while. Dealing with meals is a big source of worry for me. I cannot cook at all.
