Insomnia, not coping

Hey everyone. Just joined you all here today. I've been struggling for years with insomnia on too of my many other MH problems. Spoken with my Dr today who wants me to try mirtazapine. Now I'm very dubious about this as I have been on a weight loss journey for 3 years now and I'm very close to having my surgery as my final step and now I'm super worried that the medication is going to harm my journey and I won't be allowed surgery.

On the plus side I'm glad that they are actually listening to me now 🙂

You should be ok, if they find you need to come off the medication they will follow that route, although in the past I have never been taken of medications when I have had the type of treatment you explain above

Try not to worry, good luck with your forthcoming Surgery.

Thank you so much for your kind reply. I think because it's been going on so long and how much I've had to change in my life to get where I am I'm just scared about any potential weight gain from a change in medication balance and what that may mean going forward.

GP said he will keep a close eye on things because of my worries and previous MH history too

I do understand how you must feel, over the years I have suffered proceedures because of my fears in Dental Practice in which Sedation was undertaken. Medication you describe should not effect the proceedure you are going through. They will watch over you when you are under for your proceedure. I take medication similar and also I am on Opiates as well at max dose, I had no problems so try not to worry.

Keep me informed if you wish after your proceedure

How you cope my friend with insomnia. Do you sleep at all? I'm struggling with the same.

Hey Conrad. You know, I think it's just become a part of everyday life. I'm lucky if I managed 3 hours solid sleep, but most nights it's very broken sleep and I'm awake on and off every hour or so. Honestly, it's super hard, I've tried so many things to help, but unfortunately I'm having to now resort to medication. Have you tried anything to help with yours like meditation, no technology for at least an hour, reading, white noise etc?

I tryed everything. Hot milk etc. I'm a tree surgoun and I have good family don't wanna loose it bro. I had my 3ed night sleep bt after ziplocane. But 2 night I manage to sleep without ofcourse wake up all the time bt dno how to cope with it. I had a moment when we went through corona and I started getting panicac attacks and warring to much of my fsmilly. I got hold of xanax took it for 6 days stopped 2 weeks ago cold turekyim scared that my shit my head up and I was smoking weed for ages. Stopped aswell cz i start getting panic attacks after this. Doctors are saying it can't be xanax cz it was not enough in my system. Bt im scared I destroyed my life for good heh. I'll keep fighting for my fsmilly and stay positive bro.

Never ever give up fighting for yourself and your family dude. There's something called valerian root which you can get in health stores (it does contain small amounts of alcohol so not recommended if you have an alcohol addiction) but it does help with sleeping if you're up for trying something different. Tree surgeon is a good job, and hard labour too so you'd think that would help. I agree with the docs about the Xanax though, there wouldn't be enough in your system to cause a problem, but please if you're ever coming off meds again, speak with a doc, cold turkey can be damaging if it's after prolonged use. Keep fighting. We're all warriors

Yo bro. I'm goin to pick my antidepressants today. For serotonin or something like that. Bt they gived me more zipoclane for sleep i don't want to take tht heh heard is very addictive.

NBC_lover in reply to Conrad1234

That's great that they're giving you anti depressants, I'm glad they're listening to you. Don't be scared of the zopiclone though, taken for short periods of time under supervision and regular checks they are really good meds and not addictive if just taken short term to get sleep back in a rhythm

Conrad1234 in reply to NBC_lover

Is it working for anxity. I'm just so scared that xanax could do more damage. I think I was taking 1 or 2 mg a day bt only for 6 days maybe 7. Bt my anxity is telling me what if I took it more 3 mg or semtjing like that. I remeber I didn't bt everything comes to my head I'm scared ill never sleep or never feel normal heh

NBC_lover in reply to Conrad1234

We're all our own kind of normal bro, yeah it's helping, I still get severe anxiety attacks. But I'm also Autistic so I struggle with all different kinds of anxiety. Some people find meds help a lot more than others do. It's a very personal thing

Conrad1234 in reply to NBC_lover

They piscribe me sertlaline did you heard about tht bro

NBC_lover profile image
NBC_lover in reply to Conrad1234

Hey bud, yeah I've heard of that. It's a very common anti depressant. It works really well for about 85% of people. You should be good with that one. Do make sure you let the doc know if it's not working though and they can look at the dosages, there's a lot of scope for changes with sertraline

Conrad1234 profile image
Conrad1234 in reply to NBC_lover

Yep ill take them tomorow. Lots of people says to me that I shouldn't take them antideorestnas that's its just weed withral and take lots of omega 3 etc to make my brain produce dopamine and sortonje naturally but I dno if thats helps. I'll take them antidepressants. But I was smoking weed for a long time 6 years everyday.

Hi Conrad1234, keep talking, preferrably to someone you like and respect, and who will take time to listen to you, very important. If there is no one of that decription, talk again to the Medics. I have been going through this for 40 years on and off, It has been very much trial and error for me personally. You will have good days believe me, please remember that when the 'Black Dog' (As Churchill called it )strikes. It sounds like you have good family support round you so stick with it friend, and I wish you well.

Don't take it, till after the surgery, and only then, if you must. Best to go in to any surgery as fit and fat free as possible. This could assist enormously in a better outcome. All the best.Ron

Don't take what my friend hahaha

Vindicatrix profile image
Vindicatrix in reply to Conrad1234

Whatever you are taking, pescribed drugwise. Speak to your GP, but the general advice seems to be, lay off drugs, and go into any surgery or chemo treatment, thin, fit, and nasties- FREE. Drink, Drugs, Having had good, nutritional food programme.. etc. If you do all of this, a better outcome is more likely I think, but it is entirely a matter for you Conrad. All the best. Ron
