Tips to fall asleep?

Anyone got any tips for getting and staying asleep? I've just finished a course of sleeping tablets and I've hardly slept last couple of nights. I'm in the process of separating from my wife and its badly impacted my mental health. I just want to switch off totally on a night, not to feel, not to think.

I couldn't sleep unless I had my medication.

Can you go back to your doctor and explain how you are feeling.

The problem with some doctors is that they talk text book.

The times I have heard about my medication "you know they are addictive".

The reason I get them was through a psychiatrist who put in a letter words to the effect that I don't drink or do drugs.

Tell the doctor you cannot sleep and you hate alcohol.

The problem is Sleeping tablets are very addictive and the longer you are on them the less effective they are and the more you take the least effective they become

The main things you could try is Mindfulness Relaxation technique books available from Amazon. Go to bed the same time every night and get up at the same time in the morning.

Consider having supper early, two to three hours before bed this prevents you been kept awake

I find diverting my thoughts away from violent films, late night.

Do you have any hobbies that will distract your thoughts. Before bed.

I do do quite a lot of reading before bed. that distracts me, the books are on places we have visited or done during the day

Hello friend, here are some of the things that are working for me:

1) Sleeping and waking up at the same time everyday.

2) Not taking tea or coffee late in the evening.

3) Exercising regularly.

4) Eating healthy food.

5) Listening to relaxing media while I fall asleep.

Hope this helps you.

Promethazine is an antihistamine which is also used as a sleeping tablet. It is non addictive and can be found in over the counter sleep remedies. I take Promethazine and have a lavender sleep spray (from Avon) to spray on my pillow when I need to. I also find "white noise" sends me to sleep x

I go to bed at the same time every night, I spray my pillow with lavender spray & I meditate then listen to a sleep story. It works for me. Good luck
