** Trigger Warning** Is this considered as self harm and what are some tips to stopping?

So I have been clean of cutting for a few months now but I think I may be subconsciously self harming and was wondering how I could stop. I'll break it down, so sometimes I'll bite my tongue really hard, dig my nails into my palms, scratch my skin until it bleed etc. and I'll do it without thinking but then realize I'm doing it and stop only to find myself doing it again. I've tried to be more mindful of it but it just happens, does anyone have any tips on how to stop?

Hiya,

Take a look at this link to Mind UK about self-harming, it explains a lot, and yes, the actions you have been taking are considered a form of self-harming. There are some really helpful suggestions on how to help yourself and stay safe:mind.org.uk/information-sup... It will help too, if you keep your mental health team aware of how you are doing, as they can monitor you and help keep you safe. Hope this helps?

Take care,

MAS Nurse

PS It may still help to write ** Trigger Warning** (which I've just added for you), in your post heading whilst you are self-harming to warn vulnerable folks not to read if not in a good place themselves.

think of the reasons that you stopped before.could you maybe carry a little item or maybe a photo of a loved around so to distract you if the thoughts creep up.even a number for you to call if you think you need support.

This post made me think. I got asked on Saturday at hospital about self - harming. I automatically told him I don't cut or bang my head, but when we talked more I realised that lots of things I do - skipping meals; binge eating; taking tablets that I don't need; they are all types of self harm. I hope you're ok and you learn to manage this - I understand how hard it us x

Consider this, if you are self harming, you do not know you are doing it or why you need to explain your problem with your GP and talk out this problem in CBT.

You need to check up your problem as stated by MAS, you could also try SANE they may have exclamations and more information regards your problem.

Some people who bite their nails when stressed can do the same thing, incompany some people will ask why you are biting, the reasons why people do this can be caused by stress cutting although the same where you scratch yourself or dig the nails into your palm can also be caused by stress. However the sensation of pain can bring you back around.

I knew a girl who had long hair and would chew on it.

Talk to your GP and explain what you are doing, CBT may help you moving on

yes it's self harm. what have you done for coping prior when you have had the urge to self harm, have you tried ice cubes, rubber band, mindfulness.

I know that self expression in a positive way helped others, such as art work, music, poetry, writing, photography...all of which were ways to get it out how your feeling and let yourself be expressed in your art work...color on canvas....learning how to use digital photography apps to manipulate photo's into your own unique expression of a subject.
