I am new to this group. My hope is to both offer encouragement and find it. First I believe it is only fair to reveal that I am 70 years old. I still think therefore I am! The majority of my life has been spent in the shadow of deep depression . Recently, my therapist of 37 years retired. The sad part is that he was losing his ability to remember important facts of our progress. He moved away to another state and did not provide continuity of care. That was nearly a year ago. I have searched unsuccessfully for a therapist who accepts Medicare. I am alone in ways most can not understand. I thought I was strong enough to exist with my illness alone until death, now I am not so sure. That's not a suicide threat. At my age, death is something you must factor into your life.

Seeking a purpose
Sending prayers for you 🙏🙂
This is my worry - feeling alone and being alone going into my 40-50’s! I feel for you and it’s a shame that your therapist didn’t refer you on to someone else, maybe? I’m not having much luck with my current one and really not keen anymore to speak with him. Maybe looking into a charity called Minds? Wish you well.
Welcome newbie
Thanks hippo love😊
Hi KCindy that must be difficult to have your therapist retire! Hope you find someone new! I can relate to a lot of what you said for I also have suffered from depression and anxiety. Have you read the book women who love too much ? A great book for Children of Alchoholics! Do u play an instrument? Also I read how healing growing flowers and vegetables is! Getting your hands into soil and being around beauty!i wish you relief and peace!
Hi Opera lady! It is good to hear from you. No I do not play an instrument but I admire those who can. I wish I had a place to garden..I live on the 10th floor of a high rise apartment building for seniors. I do have a lovely view of the Smoky Mountains here in the Southeast. Ever heard of Dollywood ? I have heard of the book you mentioned maybe I should try to find it. Thanks for the good wishes ! Hope you are well😊
Thank you for responding! How about potted plants? You can do a lot with them and they can bring you a lot of joy! It’s like you raise and sustain them! They give you there beauty! I understand! Jogging power walking weight training all good for depression! Trust me!
Continue finding ways to build community! Age is not a reason to avoid socializing. It's important that you're part of a community and find that sense of purpose you are seeking. Perhaps small plants in your home can bring some purpose: devil's ivy is very easy to care for as a houseplant. Add music to your life where possible, as routine. Stay connected to this forum. You're not alone.
Love & hugs!
